Jerusalem moves on in Winner Cup preseason tourney with win over Gilboa

Hapoel Jerusalem eased by Hapoel Gilboa Galil 73-60 to move onto the WINNER Cup semifinals where they will face the winner of the Maccabi Tel Aviv and Maccabi Rishon Le’Zion game on Wednesday night. Oren Amiel’s guards Jalen Adams and Retin Obasohan stole the show as each player scored 22 points a piece. London Perrantes led Gilboa with 15 points in the loss.

Obasohan summed up the game, “It was a game of runs there were stretches where we played well and also where we saw there are things we need to work on. We can go back to the drawing board and play the way coach Oren wants to.”

Coach Amiel also chimed in following the game, “I think we are still trying to find our identity which is putting the two things offense and defense together. It’s way too early to judge what we are and it will take time.”

Guy Kaplan, the Gilboa bench boss looked at the preseason games as a process as his club readies for the season, “I am still looking at the bigger picture so far and not so much the result. We are showing character and we know we aren’t there yet but we are working on it.”

Gilboa jumped out to a 9-0 lead on the strength of baskets by Yotam Hanochi and Ronnie Harrell, but Jerusalem came back strong in the second half of the first quarter as guards Retin Obasohan and Jalen Adams supplied the points to grab a 24-22 advantage after ten minutes.

The capital city Reds continued to up their lead as Obasohan and Adams scored at will while Thon Maker also got into the act as London Perrantes tried to keep Guy Kaplan’s squad close but were down by 10-points, 47-37 at halftime.

Anthony Bennett and Itay Segev started to find the basket for Oren Amiel’s squad while Perrantes scored at the other end, but Jerusalem extended their lead to 60-48 after thirty minutes. Sean Kilpatrick got on the board while Obasohan and Adams scored also to wrap up the win for Jerusalem.
