Jerusalem, Holon & Herzliya all fall in Europe

Hapoel Jerusalem 83-91 Bayern Munich
Bayern gave Jerusalem a rough time at the Pais Arena as the German ballers defeated the Reds on Gameday 3 of the EuroCup. The visitors took a 19 point lead after ten minutes, 31-12, however a strong second quarter pulled the hosts to within 12 points, 51-39. But as Jerusalem began to claw back into the game, Bayern pulled away 78-55 after 3 frames. The 4th quarter was garbage time galore for both teams as the Reds put up a valiant fight but it was too little too late on this night.

Jerusalem went an abysmal 22/37 from the free throw line while shooting only 45% from the field. Austin Daye scored 28 points going 5/8 from beyond the arc, while Richard Howell added 13 and Alen Omic 10 points in the loss. Bayern featured 5 players in double digits with Vladimir Lučić’s 16 points leading the way while Milan Macvan added 15 in the win.

Jerualem Head Coach Fotis Katsikaris:
“How we reacted and how we fought in the last six minutes of the game is what I am taking from this game. It’s not easy playing against a solid team like them, and we had options until the end. And that’s what I want everybody to understand: that we can play hard, rebound, help each other… We created different situations in our options. We scored 83 points against a solid defensive team. We missed 15 free throws and 6 to 8 layups. We have to find the balance as a team and we can compete that way. I am optimistic.”

Juventus UTENA 71-69 Hapoel Holon
Dan Shamir’s Holon dropped a tough away contest by a pair of points in Lithuania. TaShawn Thomas recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds as Joe Alexander added 18 and Tu Holloway dropped 12 in the loss.

Bnei Herzliya 63-68 Tsmoki-Minsk
Bnei Herzliya fell at home EuropeCup action by 5 points as Shawn Dawson and Taureen Green each scored 18 points in the contest.
