Hapoel Jerusalem announced the signing of Jared Harper (26, 1.83m) for the upcoming two seasons. Harper, an Auburn College graduate, went undrafted in 2019 but managed to reach the NBA, making 16 appearances for the Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks and the New Orleans Pelicans. At Auburn, he played alongside Austin Wiley who will be playing for the Reds this coming season and scored in double figures throughout his three years in college. In his senior season, he notched 15.3 points, 5.7 assists and went 37% from three-point range.
During his time in the NBA, Harper also played in the G League where he featured in 68 games between 2019-2022 and averaged 21 points, 6.4 assists and shot 38.4% from beyond the arc, earning him a spot on the league’s first team in 2021. In 2023 Harper decided to try his luck overseas and played for Valencia in the EuroLeague for the past two years where he averaged 9.3 points and 3 assists in 53 appearances.
Jared Harper spoke about joining Hapoel, “I am super excited to join Hapoel. We are building a project and we will have to work hard to meet our goals. I pride myself in using my strengths to add to the strengths of all my teammates. I am happy to return to playing alongside my good friend Austin Wiley and I am sure the team will benefit from our experience together. To all the red fans – I can’t wait to meet you all! Yalla Hapoel!”
Coach Yonatan Alon added, “Jared is a player we wanted from the very beginning of the summer and I am thrilled that we managed to sign him. He is a playmaking creator of the highest level – both for himself and others. When needed, he can be the scorer or alternatively the point guard who knows how to utilize all of his teammates’ strengths. I am sure that alongside the talented backcourt we have, Jared will integrate perfectly and bring the qualities we were looking for – game read, outstanding shooting, great penetration ability and above all – a quality person who will uplift the locker room.”
