Israel WINNER League Championship Playoffs Matchday 35 May 14, 2016

Maccabi Haifa 2:1 Hapoel Beer Sheva

The Desert Red’s dropped their first league match since Matchday 5(!) as they fell to the thorn in their side all season long Maccabi Haifa. Maor Meilikson helped the table leaders to a 1:0 lead before halftime, but a tremendous Hen Ezra goal early on in half number 2 and an Eyal Meshumar winner late in the game gave the Greens a valuable 3-points. The loss closes the top of the table gap to only 2-points as Beer Sheva will need to find a win next week against Bnei Sakhnin at Toto-Turner Stadium.

Beitar Jerusalem 0:2 Maccabi Tel Aviv

An Eran Zahavi second half penalty and a late goal by Haris Medunjanin kept the Yellow & Blue in the race for the title with only one Matchday remaining. With the Beer Sheva lead at the top of the table reduced to only 2-points a Maccabi win over Haifa at Bloomfield Stadium coupled with a Beer Sheva draw or loss will hand The 3-time defending champs a 4th title in a row.

Bnei Sakhnin 1:1 Hapoel Raanana

Haim Silvas and his crew played spoiler for the second week in a row as a Yuvak Shabtai goal gave Raanana the lead while a Feras Mugrabi penalty evened up the match for Sakhnin knocking them out of Europe and a chance to nail down 4th place. Next week Sakhnin will visit Beer Sheva with nothing to play for but pride as a win or draw against the Reds may give Maccabi the championship should they defeat Haifa next Matchday.
