Israel U20 Team honored for European Championship achievement

The Israel Under-20 National Basketball Team were honoured for capturing the Silver Medal at the European Championships in Crete as the Israel Basketball Association held a festive gathering at their headquarters in Tel Aviv.

Despite falling to France 89-79 in the final game which went to overtime, the Blue & White had two players in Noam Yaacov and Danny Wolf named to the Team of the Tournament.

All of the players were on hand for the event as the Association’s CEO Yakov Ben Shushan welcomed the squad and staff that had just returned from the Geek Island, “It was a great tournament and this team continued the tradition of the U20’s over the past decade. I hope that we will see some of the players with the senior national team in the future.

Head coach Elad Hasin also commented on the team’s achievement, “I want to thank the players who gave it their all and played with injuries and through pain and difficulties. It brought us all a great amount of pride to represent the State of Israel and everyone did so in exemplary fashion. I want to acknowledge the entire staff, this couldn’t have been done without everyone here and of course we want to thank everyone who supported us from their homes.”

Captain Nevo Sommerfeld gave his appreciation in the name of all of the players, “I want to thank everyone, the staff, the IBBA. The tournament was exciting and it was no doubt one of the greatest things that we have all ever experienced.
