Israel Olympic Update: Bronze for Judo, 2 finals on Sunday

Israel won their second medal of the Tokyo Olympics as the Judo contingent won a bronze medal in the Mixed Team Judo event over Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) by the score of 4-3.

Timna Nelson-Levy clinched the victory with an Ippon over Daria Mezhetskaia to send the Israeli contingent into ecstasy which will leave a positive mark after a disappointing week.

The Blue & White won their first round match over Italy 4-3 having to come back from a 3-2 deficit with wins by Raz Hershko and Gili Sharir. Next up was France and Israel took a 3-1 lead but lost 3 bouts in a row which sent them to the Repechage.

Israel eased by Brazil 4-2 to move into the Bronze medal bout where they downed the Russians 4-1 thanks to wins by Sagi Muki, Raz Hershko, Peter Paltchik and Nelson-Levy.

Over in the pool the Mixed 4×100 Medley Relay team of Anastasia Gorbenko, Andi Murez, Itay Goldfaden and Gal Cohen Groumi competed in the final of the event and finished in 8th place with a time of 3:44:77.

In Windsurfer RS:X, Yoav Cohen won the medal race on Saturday to come within one point of winning a bronze medal as a number of competitors were disqualified, however, Jun Bi of China finished fourth in the race to knock the Israeli out at the last second. In the women’s competition, Katy Spykachov ended her final race in 10th place and finished in 6th overall.

In Archery, Itay Shanny fell to Chih-Chun Tang of Chinese Taipei 6-5 in the Round of 16 and was eliminated from medal contention.

Sunday will see a couple of finals and a chance to add to the medal collection
