Israel fell to France 4-1 in a Nations League game that took place in Budapest due to the security situation in the Holy Land. The blue-and-white conceded an early goal that went right through the hands of keeper Omri Glazer and while Omri Gandelman found the equalizer, Les Bleus retook the lead just minutes later as they held on to score a pair of later strikes to close out the game.
“For 86th minutes and I was optimistic with our chances,” Ran Ben Shimon said following the game. “This was not a 4-1 game and it was a very tactical game for 86 minutes and I feel badly for the players to have to give up two late goals. The players really want to succeed and some had terrific games despite the defeat. I will take the responsibility for this loss.”
Head Coach Ran Ben Shimon started a very offensive minded lineup in hopes of giving the supporters both in person and at home to see some entertaining soccer and that as certainly the case in a blockbuster first half.
Eduardo Camavinga took a long distance shot from outside of the box that seemed to look like na easy ball for Israeli keeper Omri Glazer to handle, however, the ball skipped through his hands and into the back of his goal to give France a 1-0 lead in the 6th minute. But less than twenty minutes later, Omri Gandelman headed home an Oscar Gloukh ball to even up the score at 1-1. However, Christopher Nkunku slid the ball under a helpless Glazer to help Les Bleus retake the lead in the 28th minute as Didier Deschamps’s squad went into the break holding a 2-1 advantage.
Both coaches started to make wholesale changes in their lineup as 2nd half chances at a premium with either side providing any serous chances until the 80th minute France put away the game for good. Matteo Guendouzi added an insurance marker in the 87th minute while just two minutes later Bradley Barcola scored his debut goal too closeout the French win.
