Maccabi Haifa 83-85 Hapoel Holon
A terrific game in Haifa resulted in a huge win for Elad Hasin and Holon and a devastating loss for Rami Hadar and Haifa. Both sides went back and forth for 40 minutes of intense basketball at Romema as Isaac Rosefelt (14pts) put in 9 points in the first 10 minutes for Holon, but Alex Chubrevich (9pts) & Ike Ofoegbu (17pts) helped keep Haifa in the game early. Tony Crocker (17pts) & Dominic McGuire (10pts) gave Holon a 7-point lead 31-24 in the 2nd quarter but again Chubrevich, Ofoegbu & Dagan Yivzori (11pts) pulled Haifa ahead by the end of 20 minutes 42-27. Jordan Taylor (14pts) was able to bring Holon even to start the 3rd quarter while Rene Rougeau (27pts) with another incredible game allowed Haifa to keep neck and neck with the purple and yellow. Rougeau’s 5th foul then sent him to the bench with 30 seconds remaining as Moran Roth who just returned from injury hit a 3-pointer to give Haifa a slim 83-82 lead. Guni Israeli (15pts) then made a free throw from the charity stripe to tie the game up and after a Haifa turnover Shlomi Harrush (8pts) nailed a shot at the buzzer to give Holon the victory!
Maccabi Tel Aviv 85-78 Hapoel Gilboa/Galil
Maccabi continued its winning ways this time dispatching the visiting Hapoel Gilboa/Galil by 7 points at Menora Mivtachim Arena in Tel Aviv. With Sofo and Jeremy Pargo getting the night off for the European Champions it was Jake Cohen and Brian Randle’s turn to star. Cohen started the game off for Maccabi with 7 points in the 1st quarter and the yellow and blue never looked back scoring 15 points while Randle also chipped in with 15 points of his own along with 8 boards and 6 assists. Hapoel’s new acquision Marcus Lewis was the game’s high scorer with 20 points and Alex Young put in 13points while pulling down 8 rebounds. With Gilboa/Galil’s 6th loss in a row and Ashdod’s recent resurgence, Barak Peleg’s club better watch out as they may be in the danger zone of relegation.
Nahariya escaped Rishon Le’Zion with a 1-point win after a wild final minute of play. After Mark Lyons (14pts) gave the visitors the lead with 60-seconds to go a number of misses by the aforementioned Lyons and Shawn Dowson (20 points) a critical turnover by Frank Robinson (8pts) with 13 clicks on the clock to go gave Rishon a last gasp chance to take the W. However, Dowson missed yet again and gave Nahariya a hard earned win on the road. John Williamson led all scorers with 26 points and 10 rebounds while Tony Younger added 17 points for Rishon.
Birthday boy Afik Nissim (12pts) broke open a tight contest in the 4th quarter scoring 9 straight points to take home the victory for coach Dan Shamir. Adrian Yuter added a 14 point, 14 rebound double-double plus White chipped in with 13 points of his own for the clutch win. Nes Ziona had four players with 10 points a piece, Knowles, Watt, Dunne & Wilson, but couldn’t come up with a way to stop Nissim in the last frame.
Jerusalem went to Ashdod and gave new coach Tzika Sherf fits as his side kept up with Hapoel for the first half but by the 3rd quarter he had seen a different story entirely. Strong play by struggling center Joseph Jones (16pts & 9 RBS) was able to do Ashdod in as the Jerusalem big man was able to do as he pleased against an overmatched home side. Donta Smith sported a double-double with 11points & 10 rebounds, while four other players for Hapoel finished with 10 points a piece. For Ashdod strong play by Jon Nunnaly (19pts) and a ivan Aska (14pts) was just not enough on this night.
Bnei Herzeliya 71-91 Hapoel Tel Aviv
The Reds ran away with this game in the 3rd quarter on hot shooting by Yancy Gates (18pts) & Raviv Limonad (17pts, 8rbs, 8 assists) to open up a huge lead that they would never look back from. Herzeliya received terrific play from Josh Selby(18pts) Yuval Naimi (14pts) & Julian Wright (14pts, 7rbs, 7 assists) but it wasn’t enough against a hungry Hapoel Tel Aviv side who also boasted a double-double by May,in with 14 pts & 13 boards.
