Israel Basketball Gameday 7 – 2017/18


Bnei Herzliya 78-90 Hapoel Jerusalem
Hapoel Jerusalem beat Bnei Herzliya thanks to a strong 4th quarter performance outscoring Herzliya 21-7. The game tipped back and forth throughout the 40 minutes as Herzliya led at the end of the first and third frames while Hapoel Jerusalem led int the half and when it mattered most, at the end. Jerome Dyson ushered Hapoel Jerusalem to the win by scoring 24 points, Lior Eliyahu helped him out scoring 14 points with 3 rebounds while Stratos Perperoglou also added 12 points and 3 assists. Jeff Adrien led Herzliya with a near double double scoring 22 points and grabbing 8 boards as newcomer Michael Efevberha recorded 17 points with 4 rebounds and Shawn Dawson had 14 points and 5 boards as well.

Jerome Dyson spoke to the Sports Rabbi following the game:
“We knew how to get them on the pick and rolls and I was able to get to the basket. Once we ran more options on offense things got better. We made them play some defense and things changed.”

Winning before the break:
“No-one wants to go 12 days after a loss. It’s really good for us and the coach. We’re building something and it’s going in the right direction. Hopefully we can carry this moment when we get back and get some rest too.”


UNET Holon 109-106 Maccabi Ashdod
UNET Holon held on in overtime to take a 109-106 win over Maccabi Ashdod. Holon came out strong in the first quarter but Ashdod chipped away to take the game into overtime. However, Glen Rice’s 43 points was too much for the visitors to overcome as Holon took the hard fought win. Guy Pnini helped Rice out with 23 points and 5 assists while Joe Alexander racked up 18 points with 4 rebounds before getting injured. David Laury III guided Maccabi Ashdod with a double double scoring 30 points and 12 rebounds, Sek Henry followed him up with 16 points and 8 assists and Cameron Long had a double double with 15 points and 10 assists.


Hapoel Tel Aviv 74-95 Maccabi Haifa
Maccabi Haifa defeated Hapoel Tel Aviv Sunday night inn radius game being okayed in Gan Ner. Haifa got off to a hot start leading 26-18 at the end of the first frame and never looked back. Oz Blayzer led Maccabi Haifa by recording a double double scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds, Brandon Bowman chalked up 17 points with 7 boards and Angel Rodriguez also helped by adding 12 points. Jerel McNeal guided the way for Hapoel Tel Aviv by scoring 21 points with 6 rebounds, Tomer Ginat had a near double double chalking up 13 points and 9 rebounds and Adrian Banks also had 13 points in the loss.


Ironi Nes Ziona 68-98 Maccabi Tel Aviv
Maccabi Tel Aviv dominated Nes Ziona, Maccabi leading coming out of the gate at the end of the first quarter and were up by 23 points going into the second half. Nes Ziona cut the Maccabi advantage to 12 points at the end of the third frame but after the final frame fell by 30 points, 98-68. John DiBartolomeo showed the way for Maccabi by scoring 20 points with 3 assists, Jake Cohen followed him up with 17 pts and 6 rebounds and Deshaun Thomas also recorded 15 points with 5 assists. Jaron Johnson led Nes Ziona with 21 points and 6 rebounds while Tal Dunne was the only other player to score double digits tallying 13 points and 6 rebounds.


Maccabi Rishon Le’Zion 92-88 Ironi Nahariya
Rishon jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter and were up by 12 points after ten minutes. However, Nahariya started to cut down the advantage during the second and third frames giving the visitors a slim 4 point lead but couldn’t hold onto it over the last 10 minutes getting outscored 31-23 in the last quarter as Rishon took the win. Drew Crawford led the way for the hosts scoring 32 points with 4 rebounds, Jason Siggers added 18 points and 3 assists while Murphy Holloway supplemented them with 15 points and 5 rebounds, Alex Young led the scoring for Ironi Nahariya by recording 36 points and 7 rebounds as Corey Webster tallied 16 points with 5 assists in the loss.

Gilboa/Galil 88-82 Hapoel Eilat
Hapoel Eilat picked up the road win beating Gilboa/Galil 88-82. After a close 39-39 half, Eilat began to pull ahead for the win. Afik Nissim led all scoring 32 points with 4 assists, Jordan Loyd had a double double with 21 points and 10 rebounds and Demetrius Treadwell followed him with a double double as well recording 19 points and 13 boards. J’Covan Brown guided Galil notching 19 points and 4 rebounds as Joaquin Szuchman supplemented him with 17 pts and 4 assists. Tyler Stone who played his last game with Gilboa/Galil before heading to Japan added 15 points and 6 assists in the loss.
