Israel Basketball Gameday 28 Recaps & Highlights


Maccabi Tel Aviv defeated Hapoel Gilboa/Galil 88-70 at Yad Eliyahu as the Yellow & Blue remained at the top of the league standings. Alex Tyus led the way for Coach Ioannis Sfairpoulos’s squad with 16 points while Johnny O’Bryant dropped 11 points and pulled down 12 rebounds and Jeremy Pargo chipped in with 11 points as well. Ian Miller scored 21 points, Greg Whittington added 15 points and James Kelly scored 14 points for Ariel Beit Halachmi’s Galilee side.

Hapoel Eilat slipped by Hapoel Jerusalem 81-78 at the PAIS Arena in the nation’s capital. Sharon Drucker’s Red Sea squad raced out to a 48-33 lead after twenty minutes on the strength of Suleiman Braimoh and Elijah Bryant but Jerusalem clawed back thanks to a fine shooting display by James Feldeine and inside scoring by Tashawn Thomas. However, the visitor’s hung on to record the 3-point victory. Braimoh led the way for Eilat with 19 points, Bryant added 14 points and Jonathan Skoljebrand chipped in with 12 points in the win. Feldeine dropped 24 points for Jerusalem while Thomas scored 18 points and Amare Stoudemire added 12 points in the defeat.

Hapoel Holon dominated Hapoel Beer Sheva 89-78 as Egor Koulechov who was making his debut for Dan Shamir’s squad scored 15 points for the host’s in the win. Corey Walden added 19 points for Holon while Jordan Swing scored 21 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Beer Sheva.

Bnei Herzliya defeated Nahariya 76-72 up north in a relegation battle. Visiting Herzliya took a 26-10 lead after ten minutes but Nahariya came back to close the gap over the next two quarters and even took a lead late in the game. But Bogdan Bliznyuk and Xavier Rathan-Mayes closed out the contest to give Arik Shivek’s squad the hard earned win. Rathan-Mayes ended the evening with 28 points and Bliznyuk added 10 points for Herzliya while Iftach Ziv scored 22 points for Nahariya in the defeat.

Nes Ziona needed overtime to drop Hapoel Tel Aviv 100-98. The back and forth game saw plenty of action and superb dunks by Chris Dowe and Deshawn Stephens but the host’s pulled out the 2-point victory in the extra period. Gary Browne-Ramirez scored 23 points and dished out 9 assists and Dowe clocked in with 22 points in the win while Raviv Limonad led the Reds with 22 points and 9 assists and Jerel McNeal scored 20 points and recorded 9 helpers in the loss.

Maccabi Rishon Le’Zion dominated Maccabi Ashdod on the road 93-66. Cameron Long and Adam Ariel scored 18 and 16 points respectively for Rishon who at one point were ahead by 53 points.
