Iran behind threats targeting Israeli Olympians, Blue & White archers in action on Day 2

Jul 25, 2024 | Jews in Sports

As the 2024 Paris Olympics are already underway and the opening ceremonies set for Friday evening, the Israeli delegation including its athletes have received numerous threats that have now been traced back to Iran. With that, the Israel Olympic Committee has released a statement concerning the ongoing intimidation tactics by the enemy who recently launched an attack that included ballistic and cruise missiles along with drones at the Jewish State in April.

“The Israel Olympic Committee strongly condemns the campaign of threats and intimidation launched by Iran in order to threaten the members of the Israeli delegation to the Olympic Games in Paris. We see this as a serious attempt to harm the safety and well being of our athletes, who have not been deterred by such attempts and remain determined to represent the State of Israel with respect as this is completely against all Olympic values.

This is yet another act by a country that does not respect any international rule and that tries to terrorize the free world. One can only imagine a situation in which such a country obtains additional means such as nuclear weapons and uses them to terrorize the entire world.

The Israel Olympic Committee is working in full cooperation with all parties in order to ensure the safety and security of all the members of the delegation. All detected fake social media channels and fake phone numbers are already being addressed and we will continue to work to remove and block them immediately.

The Israeli delegation and the athletes are more prepared than ever and are ready to face any challenge. The spirit of the Israeli athletes is strong and determined to concentrate on their sporting goals.

These actions are in complete opposition to the Olympic spirit and values. We expect the entire world to stand up against these attempts to har the existence of the most important sporting event in the world. This is a motion that is targeting to harm the entire sports world and is in line with the various attacks against the Israeli delegation in particular and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in general.”

Israel archers were busy on day two of the games as Mikaella Moshe finished in 18th place with 660 points in the Women’s Individual Ranking Round setting up a 1/32 Elimination Round matchup against Madalina Amaistroaie from Romania on July 31st.

In addition, Roy Dror finished in 42nd place with 655 points in the Men’s Individual Ranking Round and will face Steve Wijler from the Netherlands on August 1st in the 1/32 Elimination Round.

No Israeli athletes will be in action on Friday as the opening ceremonies will take center stage but on Saturday there will be a full slate of competitions including gold medalist Artem Dolgopyat.
