Hapoel Holon appointed Maurizio Buscaglia as their new head coach for the upcoming 2021/22 season. The Italian bench boss has been coaching in his home country since 1994 and was in charge of Trento for a decade between 2010-2019 where he was able to advance to the EuroCup semifinals in 2016 and was named Coach of the Year. The following year the 52-year old was with Reggio Emilia and this past campaign saw him guide Brescia to an 11-17 record good for 9th place in Italian League play. In 2019, Buscaglia was named coach of the Netherlands National Team and helped them punch their ticket to the 2022 Eurobasket tournament.
“It’s a great feeling to be selected for this position,” began Buscaglia. “I have a tremendous amount of motivation and responsibility for this new journey to lead an important club like Hapoel Holon. There are challenges that are awaiting us and I am grateful to the club for this opportunity. I want to also thank CEO Roy Dvora who right away gave me a good feeling. I can’t wait to begin!”
Club Chairman Eitan Lanciano also commented about Holon’s new coach, “I’m very happy about signing Maurizio Buscaglia. Stefanos Dedas’s departure was a surprise and despite that, within a very short time and with much deliberation as well as within the new limitations from the Israel Basketball Association and the Ministry of Sports, we were able to a well-known and proven coach. Following our analysis we came to the conclusion that Buscaglia was the most suitable person to become Hapoel Holon’s new head coach.
“We will continue to build a strong team that will be able to successfully compete in all competitions and we want to wish Maurizio good luck. I also want to thanks Stefanos Dedas and wish him much success with his new team.”
