Hunter and Maccabi dunk Baskonia 91-82

Maccabi Tel Aviv downed Baskonia 91-82 as the Yellow & Blue were in full control of the contest for the entire 40 minutes. Othello Hunter played magnificent basketball while Israelis Yovel Zoosman and John DiBartolomeo contributed important points in the victory that saw every player score at least a point.


Hunter and Bryant led the way with 14 points each, Angelo Caloiaro scored 12 points and Yovel Zoosman added 11 points in the win. Pierria Henry scored 19 points, Alec Peters put in 18 points while Rokas Giedraitis chipped in with 12 points in the defeat.

Youssoupha Fall scored early for Baskonia while Rokas Geridiatis scored a corner 3-pointer and a jumper as Yovel Zoosman hit a triple and Ante Zizic put the hammer down but the visitors grabbed a 11-7 midway through the the first quarter. Elijah Bryant put a floater in over the 7’4 Fall and followed up with an identical bucket, John DiBartolomeo went from downtown off a screen and Angelo Calaoiro added points in the paint. Alec Peters and Luca Vildoza went from deep as did DiBartolomeo to give Maccabi a 26-21 advantage after ten minutes.

Oz Blazyer opened the second quarter with a 3-point play, Othello Hunter added points off a break and Chris Jones hit a jumper but Tonye Jekiri and Peters scored inside as the yellow-and-blue led 36-30 with six minutes left in the first half. Fall worked his way around Zizic for a dunk but the Maccabi big man then finished off a beautiful passing play between Scottie Wilbekin and Omri Casspi. Dragan Bender from long distance was matched by Pierria Henry who also added a layup off a break and free throws as Ioannis Sfairopoulos’s squad still stayed in front 47-43 at halftime.

Wlbekin finally got on the scoresheet with a bucket to get the third quarter off and running while Bender put in an uncontested dunk but Vildoza and Peters drained triples but Zoosman put in a layup and then hit from the outside as well to keep Maccabi in front 58-53 midway through the frame. Hunter scored from outside, Achille Polonara did as well at ten other end and DiBartolomeo fed Hunter for an alleyoop and Caloiaro ended the period with a triple to give the hosts a 68-60 lead after thirty minutes.

Hunter went for a pair of alleyoops, Peters immediately answered from downtown with a pair of triples, Fall scored inside and Giedraitis hit from the corner but Bryant and Hunter added points as Maccabi continued to lead 77-71 with 5:33 remaining in the fourth quarter. Zoosman scored from beyond the arc but Giedraitis did the same at the other end, however a triple by Wilbekin and a monster Dunkaroo by Bryant wrapped up the 9-point win.
