Hapoel Holon overwhelmed Hapoel Galil Elyon 106-69 to take a 1-0 lead their quarterfinal series. Guy Goodes’s squad couldn’t miss from deep as triple after triple fell for the hosts while CJ Harris and Shawn Dawson led the way with a trio a piece to record the easy victory.
Harris paced Holon with 20 points as Dawson and Joe Ragland each scored 13 points in the win. Devyn Marble scored 19 points and Deishuan Booker added 13 points in the loss.
“We played a good game and it was because of our defense and the third quarter where we stole a bunch of balls and blocked shots which led to easy baskets,” Guy Goodes said. “The point difference in this game doesn’t really concern me. Netanel Artzi was able to defend against a variety of players and their centers as well. It’s the playoffs and the players have to show up and they all did. We split the minuets up well but Thursday will be another game.”
“We prepared various things for this series but at the end of the day it’s still one on one,” Barak Peleg began. “However, in the middle of the second quarter the plan began to unravel and things went down from there. We for sure can win the next game at home and the point difference really doesn’t matter to me. We got a good wake up call and that is the beauty of the series as we have games to come back. We have a responsibility for the Galil area and to our fans and we have to look at each other and see how we can help one another.”
The game MVP CJ Harris spoke about the win, “In any competition it’s important to protect home court. We want to play hard and we have been practicing very hard and we put that into play in this game. The playoffs is the next level up and we stepped up. It’s only one game so we can enjoy it for tonight but it’s back to work tomorrow.”
Devyn Marble got off to a red hot start with a pair of triples and a deuce while Roi Huber scored a couple of buckets for Hapoel Galil Elyon as Shawn Dawson went from the outside and inside, Joe Ragland and CJ Harris went from deep and Chris Johnson put in a 3-point play to give Hapoel Holon a 22-20 lead after ten minutes of play.
Marble began the second quarter the way he did the first with points, Frederic Bourdillon checked in with a 4-point play, Harris and Netanel Artzi answered, Dawson went for a pair from downtown, Bourdillon dialled up long distance, while Johnson, Ragland and Hayden Dalton each scored to give Guy Goodes’s squad a 51-39 lead at halftime.
Harris and Ragland each scored a pair of quick baskets to begin the third quarter, Johnson nailed a corner 3-ball, Huber did the same at the other end, but Artzi and Misgav also found points to extend the Holon lead to 78-52 after thirty minutes of action.
Dalton broke the ice to start the fourth quarter, Misgav went from deep, Artzi with some fancy footwork added a bucket while Shachar Amir, Niv Balul and Ofek Fogelman also scored to polish off the win.
