Hapoel Tel Aviv dumped Paris 100-86 as they won their first EuroCup road game to move their record to 2-0 in the young season. The Reds, who were playing without Xavier Munford due to a muscle strain in his neck started off slow as they fell behind 33-28 after ten minutes.

However, Danny Franco’s team looked for points inside and they received a bundle from their big men in Idan Zalmanson (12p), Jaylen Hoard (16p) and Chris Horton (8p/13r) as the trio combined for 36 points and 25 rebounds to help Hapoel to a 27-10 second quarter to send them on their way to the 14-point win.

J’Covan Brown checked in with a near triple-double of 21 points, 12 assists and 8 rebounds while Jordan McRae added 15 points, Bar Timor had 10 points and Tomer Ginat chipped in with 9 points in the win. Tyrone Wallace paced Paris with 17 points as Keye Allman and Juhann Begarin each scored 15 points in the loss.

“We spoke before the game about trying to contain the tempo of Paris Basketball,” Franco said. “At the beginning, in the first quarter, it was terrible for us. We watched video, but it’s not always easy to have the players feel how it is on the court. I’m happy we came back after that tough beginning of the game. And I am proud of my players that they reacted, that they were focused.”

“I think that period in the second quarter when they were getting stops and running out on us really hurt us,” Paris coach Will Weaver said. “It was a great chess match. Both teams did an exceptional job of adjusting throughout the game.”

J’Covan Brown “We just wanted to come out and play hard. We got our fans here. That’s what we came out here to do – just play hard, play for each other and fight. Those guys gave us a great shot at the beginning of the game and they’re a great team. But we just locked in and found ways to close the game.”
