Hapoel Tel Aviv demolished Joventut Badalona 95-70 in EuroCup action as all cylinders were clicking for the Reds as they moved their record to 6-4 as they will ow turn their sights on Sunday night’s Tel Aviv Derby against Maccabi. Dimitrios Itoudis’s team came out flying as Patrick Beverley scored at will while Antonio Blakeney and Bruno Caboclo helped give the hosts a 51-35 lead by halftime. Kassius Robertson and Devon Dotson tried to keep the game within striking distance, but Marcus Bingham and Yam Madar got busy in the second half as Joe Ragland closed out the victory.
Blakeney scored 20 points, Beverley added 15 points and Bingham chipped in with 11 points in the win. Robertson scored 21 points and Dotson put in 14 points in the loss.
“The third quarter was challenging for us,” Itoudis said. “It was crucial that Yam Madar hit that 3-pointer [to break the Badalona run], we had some good looks and congrats to tehe team. We played against a team that competes at the highest levels including the ACB. We shot 40% from beyond the arc, the team reacted and deserves congratulations. There is a new system and it’s an adaption period.”
“We had small reaction but very quickly and we didn’t compete as we must against a great team with a lot of talent. I think we tried but not teh right way. We need to improve and bring more balance for every single game,” Badalona coach Daniel Miret said.
The game MVP Patrick Beverley spoke about the win, “We have a helluva coach and he’s been getting us prepared since he got here, very prepared and all about the small things. We tried to win the rebound battle and that led our offense. If we get stops, coach getting new sets and we are getting comfortable with the offense.”
Patrick Beverley and Ish Wainright got off to hot starts for Hapoel Tel Aviv while Kassius Robertson and Artem Pustovyi answered for Badalona but the Reds grabbed a 30-23 lead after ten minutes of play. Antonio Blakeney and Bruno Caboclo started to fill the basket for Dimitrios Itoudis’s squad, Devon Dotson answered for the visitors but points from Beverley on the inside and outside gave Hapoel a 51-35 advantage at halftime.
Sam Dekker and Ante Tomic started to cut into the Reds lead as did Robertson with free throws but Marcus Bingham scored as did Yam Madar who went from deep, added a number of dudes and hit his free throws to bump up the lead to74-54 after thirty minutes of action. Marcus Bingham and Joe Ragland got busy to begin the fourth quarter as did Blakeney to close out the win.
