Hapoel Jerusalem knocks off Hamburg in EuroCup play, Gilboa Galil and Ramat Gan win in Israeli League play

Hapoel Jerusalem downed Hamburg 89-74 on the road in an empty arena due to the security concerns as the Reds moved their EuroCup record to 2-1 on the season. Yonatan Alon’s team stayed ahead for the most part of the game as Jared Harper (19p) and Yovel Zoosman (16p) provided the offense and Austin Wiley ruled the paint grabbing in 17 rebounds on the way to a double-double to take the win.

Austin Wiley reflected on the win, “I don’t think I played my best today offensively but when the offense isn’t going I tried to help the team as much as I can, so grabbing rebounds and playoff defense was important. We are getting there and it’s still a work in progress and it’s our 4th game officially. We are going to keep working and keep getting better. It was very different here without fans and we had to create our own energy and just imagine the fans are there. But we have a big game against Hapoel Tel Aviv and we expect that everyone will come out and support us.

Noam Dovrat also spoke about the game, “Game by game we are getting better and improving. We are happy with the win and every win in fact is important and we ant to continue building. We will need the fans and we miss them as we will be playing our first home game at the Arena. To play in an empty arena as we did here in Hamburg is not great to say the least and we always think about what would be if we had fans here. On Sunday the fans will push us forward.”

Hapoel Gilboa Galil eased past Elitzur Netanya 100-67 as the hosts dominated every aspect of the game from end to end to take the win. After a close opening quarter hour of action, Hapoel Gilboa Galil broke the game open with a 15-3 run to end the half thanks to huge buckets by Gur Lavi, Ish El Amin and Ben Moore as they outscored Carlos Marshall, Roie Paretzky and Itay Moskovitch to take a 55-38 advantage.

Sharon Avrahami’s team kept pouring on the offense in the second half as El Amin, Lavi, Lotan Amsalem and Gil Beni continued to find the bottom of the basket to cruise to the win. El Amin led the way with 22 points, Lavi scored 17 points and Moore added 15 points in the victory while Marshall and Paretzky each scored 17 points and Moskovitch chipped in with 10 points in the loss.
