Hapoel Jerusalem fall to Turk Telekom in dramatic fashion 91-90; Reds eliminated from EuroCup

Hapoel Jerusalem fell to Turk Telekom 91-90 as Kyle Allman hit a 3-pointer with under two seconds left its cancel out Roi Huber’s triple from way downtown in EuroCup quarterfinal to snatch the slim victory. The defeat eliminated the reds from the competition and ends their hope of punching their ticket to the Euroleague by winning the EuroCup as Hapoel Tel Aviv did last season.

Yonatan Alon’s squad were in control with Jared Harper doing as he pleased, however, as the game moved into the fourth quarter foul trouble got the best of the reds. Harper, Cassius Winston, Austin Wiley and Anthony Lamb all fouled out and Erdem Can’s team took advantage to take the lead and then win the game on Allman’s triple to punch their ticket to the semifinals and end Jerusalem’s European season.

Harper scored 29 points, Wiley added 16 points and Yovel Zoosman put in 10 points for Jerusalem while Allman and Jaleen Smith each scored 25 points and Uros Trifunovic chopped in with 17 points for Turk.

Hapoel Jerusalem Head Coach Yonatan Alon spoke about the tough loss, “It’s very disappointing and as to how it happened. I really have nothing else to say, there were some weird things that went on and we had to handle it as this is a competitive sport but we lost. The responsibility is on us and we lost. It’s very tough.”

Jared Harper came out of the gates red hot for Hapoel Jerusalem while Austin Wiley added points for the reds as Jordan Usher countered for Turk Telekom but Yonatan Alon’s sward grabbed a 25-19 lead after ten minutes of play. Wiley continued to fill the basket, Jaleen Smith countered and Kyle Allman countered, Isaiah Mobley and Uros Trifunovic traded buckets, but Harper and Yovel Zoosman kept Jerusalem in front 50-46 at halftime.

Harper and Wiley scored to begin the third quarter, Zoosman added points, Allman and Smith responded for Erdem Can’s squad but Harper scored from the line as Jerusalem continued to lead 67-63 after thirty minutes of action. Cassius Winston went from deep to start the final frame, Harper and Wiley scored, but Winston and Harper both fouled out with the reds ahead 76-69 midway through the fourth quarter.

Allman went from the inside, Smith scored from the outside, Anthony Lamb and Smith traded triples, Wiley went out with five fouls, Mobley scored in the paint and Roi Huber went from way downtown but Allman hit a 3-pointer with 1.8 seconds left to give Turk the victory.
