Hapoel Holon fell to Cholet 94-92 in overtime as Jordan McRae’s 37 points weren’t enough to come away with the victory. The French said took a commanding 47-34 lead into halftime, but the purples came back with a strong second half as McRae helped force overtime, however, in the extra session Cholet was just a bit better than Holon down the stretch to take the right win.
In addition to McRae’s 37 points, Idan Zalmanson scored 11 points and Lior Carreira put in 11 in the loss as Gerard Ayayi scored 19 points while Daylen Kountz and Digue Diawara each scored 13 points in the win.
Holon Head Coach Danny Franco reflected on the contest, “I think that we came in very ready basketball-wise to the game, but mentally, I don’t think we did a good job in the first half. We let Cholet get into our minds. We weren’t composed enough and after halftime, we had a different team on the floor. It’s tough to lose a game like that, especially after we showed a lot of character getting back into the game. We were able to come back from was back in the fourth quarter, forced overtime, but it wasn’t enough.”
Idan Zalmanson spoke about the tough overtime loss, “We didn’t come in ready for this game and not like we wanted to. We can see that in the amount of turnovers and we knew that any time we go into a game with this attitude, we can get punished and we did. Hopefully, we’re going to learn from this for the next game. Still, this was a great battle but we put ourselves in a situation that we shouldn’t have and that’s a little bit of a pity.
