Hapoel Haifa fell to Medi Bayreuth 80-75 in FIBA Europe Cup Qualifier Final action and were eliminated form group stage contention.
The Carmel Reds were a step behind the German squad throughout the 40 minutes of play as Beyreuth featured five players in double digits and held Haifa to jays 37.7% shooting from the field to secure their place in the group stages.
Janari Joesaar and Terry Allen scored 14 points each to lead the way for the Germans in the win while Gregory Vargas notched 15 points and James Thompson recorded a double double with 13 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.
Head Coach Elad Hasin spoke about contest that was, “The German team were able to follow their game plan and we were a bit tired with a short squad but that didn’t play a factor in how they were able to play. We wanted to come here with the goal of advancing but also to come together as a team and we are better than we were when we arrived. We worked hard to bring down the point differential but regardless I am very proud and everyone deserves a ton of credit.”
The defending champs were also bounced from Europe Cup play after losing to Porto 79-70 as Frank Bartley and Ike Nwamu led the team in points with 20 and 19 respectively in the loss.
