Game 5: Win or Go Home

Maccabi Haifa took on Hapoel Eilat in the only series of the Israeli Basketball playoffs so far to go to a game 5. Maccabi Haifa forced a game 5 against Eilat, beating them 69-62 last Thursday, leading to a first round sudden death showdown on Eilat’s home floor.

It was the Khalif Wyatt show as he put his team on his back, scoring 35 points, including 8 out of 10 from 3-point range. Everyone else from the Eilat club had pretty balanced scoring including Adrian Uter who scored 11 points and also grabbed 11 rebounds, and Afik Nissim who scored 10 points for his team.

Dagan Yivzori did all he could for Haifa by putting in 26 points, but unfortunately they fell short. Yivzori had great help from Moran Roth who dropped 15 points, as well as Rene Rougeau who scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

The contest was neck and neck throughout all quarters, but Wyatt proved to be too much for Haifa to handle. Going into the 4th quarter, Eilat lead 58-57, and it was close throughout it all, but Wyatt drained his 8th 3-pointer of the game, extending Eilat’s lead to 76-69. They never lost the lead after that and went on to win this thrilling game 5, 85-75. Going onto the next round, they will match up with number 1 seed Maccabbi Tel Aviv.
