Maccabi Tel Aviv may be opening up the Israeli League basketball semifinals against Hapoel Holon on Tuesday night (21:00) but another Yellow & Blue Maccabi club captured the Uruguay Basketball League Championship. Asociación Hebraica y Macabi won their 4th league title after downing Nacional 4-2 in the best of 7 game series after having gone down 2-1 earlier. The head coach Leonardo Zylbersztein guided the Montevideo based club to their first championship since the 2016/17 campaign.
The current club was formed after the integration of two organizations, the Macabi Hacoaj Uruguay Sports Club which was founded in May 1939 and the Hebrew Association of Uruguay in August 1944, and merged in March 1963, under the name of the Hebrew and Macabi Association of Uruguay.
