Kyle Alexander recently joined Hapoel Tel Aviv inking a deal that made him the first new import for the upcoming 2023/24 season. The Canadian center arrives after having played in Spain over the course of the past three years with the past season being with Valencia and his first in the Euroleague.
The 26-year old Alexander, who is a native of Scarborough, Ontario attended Tennessee for four years and had his best season as a senior with 7.4 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks before heading to the G-League and a short stint with the Miami Heat. From there it was off to Fuenlabrada for two years and one season with Valencia where Alexander checked in with 5.7 points and 3.1 boards in Euroleague play.
“I’m very happy that we were able to bring Kyle aboard,” head coach Danny Franco said. “We looked for a player with the ability to play both sides of the floor with experience at the highest of levels. I want to thank management for successfully completing this deal as we continue to build a quality squad for the upcoming season.”
To learn more about Klye Alexander, The Sports Rabbi spoke to a number of his former teammates:
Tennessee Teammates:
Derrick Walker: I think you guys made the right choice in picking Kyle. He was one of my most helpful and kindest teammates. His work ethic is through the roof and he always is pushing to be a good teammate. His faith in God is contagious and he isn’t afraid to be who he is.
Jabari McGhee: He’s a good kid and worked extremely hard to get to where he is today. I’m pretty sure he had to over come quite the bit of adversity too being from Canada and adjusting to USA ball. Coach Barnes at Tennessee definitely turned him into an animal. Extremely proud of the guy and you are getting a real team player!!!
G-League Teammate Skyler Flatten: Kyle is a great dude and he’s one of my favorite teammates I ever had. Works really hard during the games and gives his all every possession. Tall, long and athletic and can block shots and pick and roll with the best of them. Great locker room guy and is the ultimate professional. I don’t have anything bad to say about Kyle. Just a great player and even better person to be around
Canadian League Danilo Djuricic: Kyle is an extremely humble, personable, caring individual who always puts others first. He has a great personality and he genuinely stands out as a human being. He’s a very mobile, long center/forward who is a defensive anchor, has really grown his post game with hooks and moves in the last few years when I played with him. He has also grown a reliable mid-range jumper. I thoroughly enjoyed playing with him as he’s a special talent but even better person, a leader on and off the court.
