“He’s an amazing player and he has bright future in front of him,” said Maccabi Tel Aviv Head Coach Neven Spahija about Kevin Pangos before leaving Israel to face Zalgiris on Gameday 21 of the Euoroleague. The Yellow & Blue will need to watch out for Canadian born Kevin Pangos in Kaunus on Thursday night at 8pm Israel Time. The 25-year old Ontario native played his college ball at Gonzaga before heading to Spain to ply his trade for Gran Canaria.
Pangos is currently in his second year with Zalgiris and the Sports Rabbi had a chance to exclusively interview the up and coming star right before tip against Maccabi Tel Aviv:
You are having a wonderful year, what have been the keys to your personal success this season?
“I think it’s just kind of how our team has been working. We’re flowing pretty well, everything’s happening so as a point guard it makes it easier for me. It’s been great that we’re winning games and getting the recognition.”
What is it like to have Coach Sarunas Jasikevicius being able to guide you this season in the Euroleague?
“It’s been great. This is my second year with him so I understand what he wants even better and it’s been great. He’s been able to push me and push this team and as you see we’ve improved since last season.”
Beno Udrih played for Maccabi 15 years ago, what does he bring to the table for yourself on a personal level as a teammate?
“Beno’s a point guard and he’s been great to learn from just to pick up little things that I haven’t learned growing up. So I’m trying to ask him as many questions as I can and watch and learn whenever possible.”
Did you model your game after any specific player growing up?
“Not really, I like to look at a bunch of different point guards and take a little bit from each of their games. So there’s not one specific player.”
How do you see the last 10 Euroleague games shaping up for Zalgiris?
“We’ll see. They are going to be 10 tough games and we just can’t think about all ten. We gotta think one at a time right now and just try to get one win each week.”
