Maccabi Tel Aviv visits Bayern Munich on Thursday (21:30) in Euroleague play as the Yellow & Blue will look to continue their winning ways and chalk up their 4th victory in a row. Should Maccabi in fact take the second road win in as many games, they would move their record to 11-11 and .500 on the season as they enter the final 3rd of the campaign.

Following the club’s road win at Zalgiris, Maccabi will hope that James Nunnally who broke out with a career best performance in Lithuania will be able to duplicate the showing in Germany.

Avi Even will once again be on the sidelines for the Yellow & Blue as the club’s chief scout has filled in admirably for heat coach Ioannis Sfairopoulos who has been out of action due to COVID-19 along with two of his assistants. Noam Levy will aid Even as the pair will look to win their second Euroleague game in a row.

“We are going to play a very tough game on the road against Bayern Munich, which is one of the toughest teams in the Euroleague,” Even said ahead of the game. “We are after three EuroLeague wins and we would like to continue with this momentum. We would like to keep on sharing the basketball as we had 20 assists against Zalgiris and a very good defensive second half, which we’ll need to defend even better tomorrow. Bayern is fighting like us for a playoff spot and we’ll leave everything on the floor in order to come back home with a win.”

Ante Zizic who has had a superb season thus far also spoke about task at hand in Germany, “After our third win in a row in the EuroLeague, we need to continue with our recovery against Bayern, which like us are fighting for a playoff spot. They showed their quality with a very close game in Barcelona. We will need to continue with our good shooting percentage from the Zalgiris game and make a big effort on the defensive end.”

Over at Bayern, head coach Andrea Trinchieri will have his troops ready to go as they will look to avenge a first round loss in Israel. Bayern who are coming off a defeat at Barcelona, also features a number of familiar faces in former Maccabi center Othello Hunter and forward Deshaun Thomas while guard Corey Walden played for Hapoel Holon in the past as well. There is no question that the winner of this game will have the upper hand as the teams duke it out for one of the last playoff spots as the season hits the two third mark.

“Maccabi is on a winning streak, led by high profile players like Wilbekin and Nunnally,” Trinchieri said. “After our intense battle in Barcelona we have to find our energy to compete again with a very good team.”

Ognjen Jaramaz added, ”I think we played a very good game in Barcelona for almost all of the game, but unfortunately we lost. We’re still in a good phase, with a couple of wins over the last two weeks and a good atmosphere. Together with our fans we can hopefully keep our energy and focus up against Maccabi at home, so that we’ll get the next very important win to reach our goals in EuroLeague.”
