The 2024-25 Euroleague Season is about to get underway as the 18 clubs have all retooled over the summer months and are ready to battle it out for continental glory. Last season’s champion Panathinaikos will look to hold on to their crown while a number of teams will challenge them game in and game out with the goal of knocking them off of their throw and claiming the coveted title in May.
Let’s take a look at the 18 teams that will compete in this year’s Euroleague.
Maccabi Tel Aviv had to turnover a good portion of their roster due to the ongoing war and security situation as the yellow-and-blue, who advanced to the quarterfinals last season but fell in a hard fought battle with the aforementioned Panathinaikos in five games, 3-2 will have a tough time getting back to the promised land. Head coach Oded Katash’s squad will be playing their home games away from Yad Eliyahu with Belgrade’s Aleksandr Nikolic Hall (Pionir Arena) once again serving as their base for Euroleague operations this coming season. With sparse crowds in the Serbian facility, Maccabi will have to create their own energy, similar to the COVID-19 season when just essential staff were allowed into the arena to see the games live and in person.
Katash’s crew includes plenty of holdovers including Roman Sorkin, Tamir Blatt, captain John Dibartolomeo, Jake Cohen, Rafi Menco, Jasiel Rivero and Omer Mayer are all used to the situation which will play as an advantage while some of the newcomers, Levi Randolph who arrived from Hapoel Jerusalem and Jaylen Hoard who featured for Hapoel Tel Aviv last year are also understanding of the challenge ahead. The other summer signings, Rokas Jokubaitis, Jordan Loyd, Wenyen Gabriel and Will Rayman who played for a pair of seasons with Hapoel Haifa are all solid individuals both on and off of the court which should allow Maccabi to handle the situation that is at hand. In fact, every member of the team understands and is conscience of what they are all getting into which will undoubtedly be an advantage throughout the 34 game European season.
However, does Katash’s squad have enough power to compete game in and game out with plenty of flights ahead in the second best competition in the world? Losing the likes of Lorenzo Brown, Wade Baldwin, Bonzie Colson and Josh Nebo is a tremendous amount of talent and the jury is out if this year’s version can duplicate the success that last year’s had.
Effort won’t be a problem from this season’s team and from their preseason games, the offense looks extremely fluid and the defense solid, so as they say in the industry, time will tell.
Panathinaikos, the defending champs will look to repeat this coming season as head coach Ergin Ataman added a number of solid contributors to his already all-star squad that will be together for their second straight season. Lorenzo Brown, Cedi Osman and Omer Yurtseven bring oodles of experience to Athens and will join the likes of Kendrick Nunn, Kostas Sloukas, Konstantinos Mitoglou, Matthias Lessort and Jerian Grant to just name a few as the greens are locked and loaded once again for a title run and should be looked at as the favorites going into the new campaign.
Real Madrid and their bench boss Chus Mateo made some wholesale changes to their roster as a number of all-time superstars retired. Sergio Rodriguez and Rudy Fernandez have decided to hang up their sneakers after having tremendous careers that saw each win multiple championships both a the club and international level while Guerschon Yabusele heads to the NBA. However, Los Blancos will not only see Sergio Llull Walter Tavares, Mario Hezonja, Dzanan Musa, Gabriel Deck and Facu Campazzo all coming back but Usman Garuba returns to the club from the NBA, Serge Ibaka comes in from Bayern Munich while Xavier Rathan-Mayes and Andres Feliz will be solid additions as Real reloads to compete for the title.
Olympiacos also made a number of moves to strengthen their lineup as Georgios Bartzokas has perhaps the most talented squad since he returned to the Piraeus based club a few seasons ago. Euroleague MVP Sasha Vezenkov comes back to Greece after having given the NBA a shot, while French guard Evan Fournier, Luca Vildoza and Tyler Dorsey all join the fray that includes solid veterans Thomas Walkup, Nigel Williasm-Goss, Filip Petrusev, Shaq McKissic, Alec Peters and Naz Mitrou-Long to name a few. An injured Keenan Evans will be back in action just prior to the spring which will add yet another piece to the amazing puzzle that Olympiacos has built.

Wade Baldwin and Bonzie Colson come over from Maccabi, Boban Marjanovic joins the team from the NBA while Khem Birch, Devon Hall and Nicolo Melli all make for great additions to the Istanbul based side. Nigel Hayes-Davis, Scottie Wilbekin, Dyshawn Pierre and Marko Guduric all return as Fener and Saras will try to break the glass ceiling.
Barcelona made a number of interesting moves over the summer transfer period as Joan Penarroya takes over for Roger Grimau on the bench while Kevin Punter, Juan Nunez, Justin Anderson and Youssoupha Fall all come in to bolster the team. Dario Brizuela, Jabari Parker, Tomas Satoransky, Jan Vesely, Willy Hernangomez and Nico Laprovittola all come back for another season as the Blaugrana will look to find more consistency than they had last year and find a way to get into the Final Four.

Israeli point guard Yam Madar joins the team from Fenerbahce as he looks to take the next step in his career while Shabazz Napier, Johannes Voightmann and Oscar da Silva all join the team. Devin Booker, Carsen Edwards, Vladimir Lucic and Nick Weiler-Babb will all try to help Bayern find a way into the postseason.
Red Star Belgrade will no doubt be a threat this coming season as head coach Ioannis Sfairopoulos will start his first full year in Serbia with a team that he put together. Nikola Kalinic, Mike Daum and Ognjen Dobric are all solid signings, but budding superstar Codi Miller-McIntyre is perhaps the biggest newcomer of them all and will be relied upon to take the bull by the horns for the former Maccabi tactician. Yago Dos Santos will look to take the next step, Nemanja Nedovic is always a potent threat from deep and the venerable Milos Teodosic is always the magician on the court.
Partizan didn’t sit back in the offseason as head coach Zeljko Obradovic made 14, yes 14 new additions to the team and in effect totally turned over the roster. Brandon Davies, Tyrique Jones, Isaac Bonga, Sterling Brown, Carlik Jones, Vanja Marinkovic and Iffe Lundberg all come in while Aleksej Pokusevski and Frank Ntilikina come in from the NBA as the Serbian squad have high hopes for the new campaign.
Paris Basket are the newcomers to the Euroleague as Tiago Splitter, one of the all-time great players moves behind the bench after a number of seasons honing his trade as an assistant coach in the NBA. His squad will include a mix of veterans including star guard TJ Shorts, Yakuba Ouattara, Bandja Sy, Maodo Lo and Daulton Hommes as well as some up and coming players in Nadir Hifi and Mikael Jantunen.
Baskonia brought on veteran head coach Pablo Laso as the Spanish tactician will look to take the club back to its glory days. Markus Howard, Tadas Sedekerskis and Chima Moneke will all be counted on to play a major role for the club while newcomers Ognjen Jaramaz and Donta Hall will add some punch to the lineup.
Anadolu EFES and their bench boss Tomislav Mijatovic still has a solid squad that includes a fomer MVP in Shane Larkin, Elijah Bryant, Darius Thompson, Rodrigue Beaubois and Derek Willis while Jordan Nwora comes in from the NBA and Euroleague veterans Vincent Poirier and Rolands Smits join the team.
Bologna and head coach Luca Banchi made moves a plenty to the roster as Rayjon Tucker, Will Clyburn and Matt Morgan are among seven new signings as they will join forces with Marco Belinelli, Daniel Hackett, Tornike Shengelia and Ante Zizic as they look to take a step up from last season.
