Deni Avdija talks fellow rookies, Israel & Jewish connection and Steph Curry

Apr 20, 2021 | Jews in Sports

The Washington Wizards Israeli sensation Deni Avdija spoke to the press about a myriad of topics from the rookie class to his Jewish connection plus Steph Curry and more:

Comparing and Contrasting to the Rookie Class
I am in touch with a good number of the rookies. I’m not looking at the other rookies and comparing myself to the others, but it’s fun to see them and play against the guys from the same draft class and to see how they are doing.

Playoff Potential
The first time I sat in this media chair I believed that we had chance to make the playoffs and we have some tough games coming up but I think that we can do it. We are playing much better and the chemistry you can see on the court. Time and experience is helping out getting us better.

Expectations for the season
I didn’t come into the season with expectations and I knew it wouldn’t be easy especially because of Covid, but I’m doing the best I can under the circumstances.

The Jewish Connection
It wasn’t easy to be here during the holiday period the past couple of weeks and I felt far away from home for the first time and I wanted to try my best to be a part of it and a part of the Jewish people. I haven’t had a chance to really reach out to the local Jewish community yet because of corona and there are a lot of protocols that the NBA have in place. I hope that soon enough I will be able to do so.

D-FENCE
I know that I have to use my defensive ticket. I try to do my my best despite my shots not going in but I’m optimistic through the defense and the ups and downs are part of the season. I try to play as consistently as possible and rebound as best as I can.

The Fans & Curry
I haven’t played with the home crowd yet and I’m looking forward to it tomorrow and it’s a great feeling. Steph is Steph and he’s going to score no matter what but we have to limit him and play as string as we can.
