Damage Control

Damage Control.  My ceiling was water logged last night in a brutal flood from the neighbors upstairs.

Mattress Looks like it’s ruined

Sony MP3-no sound

Mini Stereo-No power

2 Sports books one about the LA Lakers one about the Alouettes coach Marc Trestman-Water Logged

Bedroom Ceiling-Wet

Chabad Lubavitch books and seforim on night table with other ruined items above- Not a drop of water, what can I say? The Rebbe was protecting them.

Anyways that was The Sports Rabbi’s excitement for last night. I did however make it to a good good friend’s engagement party, albeit at 10:45pm! But hey I made it.

Oh ya, sports. Well the Texas Rangers won their 11th straight. Vladimir Guerrero lashed a game winner single in the bottom of the ninth to seal the victory. It’s really amazing how hot the Rangers have been. They could really, really, really use Cliff Lee. The only problem may be the financial situation the Rangers are facing. But I can guarantee you one thing, Major League Baseball won’t let the Rangers bolt out of Arlington. Not like the Expos.

The Yankees are preparing for a reunion with Joe Torre and Alex Rodriguez is still piping hot. http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/yankees/former_manager_still_father_figure_KXXy0g7xGCYTnfQAuAhlSN about

Jeffrey Loria is excited with Bobby Valentine as his potential manager. Loria is a real trashy owner who wanted Fredi Gonzalez out as manager after last year. And he was about to can him a month ago but then Hanley Ramirez happened to go off on him and Marlins management had to keep him in order to make it seem he got fired because of Hanley’s outburst.

Italy was booted from the World Cup. Yes the defending champions are bye bye, so long and farewell. Yep off to the golf courses for the Azzuri.

Old, decrepit and done. I love Italy and I feel terrible, but the writing was on the wall for this team.  They didn’t look good through qualifying as well as France who met their maker too. Bad news all around for those 2 nations plus England just squeaked into the 2nd round.

With Brazil and Argentina playing with full tanks of gas, I don’t know who will beat them? Maybe as The Sports Rabbi predicted the USA will win it all!

Well the USA plays their second round match on Saturday night against Ghana where they will be looking for revenge from their game back in 2006.

If the USA beats Ghana, they will face either Uruguay or South Korea in the quarter finals. So in essence they have a fairly decent chance to make it to the semi finals and if they make it that far, well anything can happen.

More Thoughts from the Pulpit

1) John Wall went #1 overall in the 2010 NBA draft last night. Probably one of the worst kept secrets, Wall was the only choice for the first pick going to the Washington Wizards. Evan Turner is now a Philadelphia 76er and Derrick Favors a New Jersey Net. The Sacramento Kings chose DeMarcus Cousins. Cousins who I wrote about earlier in the week will be coming into a young team led by Tyreke Evans. I wonder how Paul Westphal will handle this up and coming club. And I wonder if Samuel Dalembert will be on his way with Omri Casspi to Toronto for Hedo Turkolu. It could happen, but I guess we’ll see…

2) The NHL will be holding their draft this weekend in Los Angeles where the Edmonton Oilers hold the #1 pick. They will be taking Windor Spitfires left winger Taylor Hall with the choice.  The Boston Bruins holding the second spot in the draft will probably go with Plymouth Whalers Center Tyler Seguin and The Florida Panthers with the 3rd pick will be looking at defenseman Eric Gudbranson from the Kingston Frontenacs. All three of these prospects ply their trade in the Ontario Hockey League, the OHL.
