On the final day of the 2024 Olympic Games, Lonah Chemtai Salpeter put in a fine showing in the Women’s Marathon coming in 9th place with a time of 2:26:08, roughly 3 minutes off the gold medalist Sifan Hassan from Holland. Salpeter had stayed in the lead pack for the first half of the run but faded as the race came closer to the end, however, her 9th place finish is the best of her three Olympic Games. Maor Tiyouri finished in 49th place with a time of 2:33:37.

After crossing the finish line, Saltpeter took her left shoe off and said, “Someone stepped on my foot during the run and I was injured, but I decided to continue anyway so as not to slow down and lose my position. In general I took a risk with my injuries. I came here after an injury and almost decided that I didn’t want to run in Paris. It was a tough marathon. I continued to work hard and I’m proud of myself because I fought until the end, I did my best today.

Saltpeter added, “I fought for the flag of my country, I wanted it to fly high. It was important to me because I saw what happened in the country recently and I wanted to support people in my own way. I wanted to be on the podium for the people in Israel, but I’m satisfied that I did the best I could in this run. The injury I had really affected me a lot in the preparations, but I’m happy with my result. The delegation supported me the entire time. My goal now is to stay healthy and reach Los Angeles in 2028.”

In Cycling Track – Keirin, Mikhail Yakovlev finished his Olympics quest coming in 5th place in his quarterfinal heat and didn’t advance to the semifinals of the competition.
