Blatt wins Young Player Award & Notes ahead of Champions League Finals

Virtus Bologna from Italy and Iberostar Tenerife from Spain will tip-off for Basketball Champions League supremacy later today in the competition’s final in Antwerp, Belgium. Bologna dissected Bamberg 67-50 in the first semifinal while Tenerife got by a game Antwerp 70-54 on Friday evening.

Colton Iverson sported a huge grin following the game, “We played like a team. We were down in the first quarter but we made our adjustments and held Antwerp to just 6 points in the second frame. But overall we played like a team and that is our secret to success.”

Antwerp’s Dave Dudzinski reflected on the defeat, “Credit to them. They adjusted well and held us where we just couldn’t score the basketball. They were able to stop us from moving the ball and they took advantage of their experience.”

Today’s final will see of Tenerife can win their second BCL title in 3 years while Bologna will look to take home its first continental crown in over a decade. Kevin Punter, Bologna’s Star will take center stage as Txus Vioderrta’s team will look to stop him and Sasha Djordjevic’s squad. The 3rd place game will pit the host’s Antwerp against the competition’s MVP Tyrese Rice and Bamberg.

On Saturday night, Rice was honored at a Gala event with the Most Valuable Player award along with a First Team place. Rounding out the top team of the season were AEK Athens forward Vince Hunter, Antwerp center Ismael Bako, Bologna’s Kevin Punter and Tenerife’s Tim Abromaitis.

Tamir Blatt of Hapoel Jerusalem took home the Young Player Award and told The Sports Rabbi exclusively that, “It’s a huge honor to win this award. I’m very happy and it was a very good season for Jerusalem but we played a very good team in Tenerife in the quarterfinals.” Blatt was accompanied by his mother Kineret who was all smiles during the event.
