Geno Crandall was recently the first new import signing for Hapoel Beer Sheva ahead of the 2023/24 season. The Minneapolis native played for three years at North Dakota (16.6ppg) before spending his Senior season at Gonzaga where his team advanced to the Elite 8. before embarking on his professional career. After a season in the Czech Republic, the point guard starred for the Leicester Riders where not only won the league championship but was also named MVP in both seasons while adding an MVP award in the 2022 finals and Cup competition. Last year Crandall moved to Goettingen in Germany where he checked in with 12.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.
To find out more about Crandall, The Sports Rabbi was in touch with a number of the floor general’s teammates to give you the reader a snese of who Lior Lubin’s new recruit is.
North Dakota Teammates:
Quinton Hooker: That’s awesome. He’s gonna do great in the league and definitely is going to be fun to watch! Great pick up for them for sure! He was back to back MVP of the British league a couple years ago and had a very solid year in Germany this past one.
Devon Pekas: Geno Crandall is a force to be reckoned with on the basketball court. His ridiculous athletic ability sets him apart, allowing him to make jaw-dropping plays and execute incredible dunks that leave spectators in awe. However, it’s not just his physical prowess that makes him outstanding. Geno possesses an exceptional court vision and basketball IQ, effortlessly reading plays and making precise passes to set up his teammates for success. He is truly passionate about the game, and if he believes someone isn’t giving their all, he’s not afraid to get in their face and hold them accountable.
Off the court, Geno is a great teammate, always supportive and encouraging. He knows how to lighten the mood and is always down for a good time, bringing positive energy to the locker room. It fills me with immense pride to see him chasing his passion overseas, where he has achieved remarkable success, including two MVP titles in the British Basketball League. Geno Crandall is a true basketball talent, both on and off the court.
Tray Buchanan: Geno was a great leader and even better dude. I was a freshman when I played with him at North Dakota. Good all-around dude and was a great vet for me to play with my first year in college ball.
Dale Jones: First one in the gym last one out! He’s really big on team comradery and he makes sure everyone is having fun!! On the days I didn’t feel like playing I could count on Geno to uplift me!!!
Bryce Cashman: Geno was a great player and teammate to play with! He was probably the most talents guard that can do both get to the basketball and create opportunities for everyone else on the court, and his vision of seeing people is great! He is a great passer, and his willingness to assist others and with great leadership! I’m happy to hear that you guys picked him up! Think it will be a great fit for you!
Turi Svitavy Teammate Damonte Dodd: He’s a hard working guy, super athletic. He’s also very quiet but once you get to know him he’s funny also. His teammates and the league will love him also. Very exciting player to watch. You guys got a great one.
Leicester Teammates:
Jubril Adekoya: Geno is one of the most fierce competitors I’ve played with. Beyond his one of a kind talent, instinct, unreal basketball IQ, and ability, he was a great leader. He was able to take over games and guide us to victory in any close game. It’s one of his gifts. But above all, a great, great, great human being. Amazing with people. He made the game so easy for somebody like me. All I had to do was make open shots.
Greg Wild: Geno is a great guy, a really good teammate and someone who is always willing to help out the young guys. He’s a very explosive, high IQ and talented basketball player. Hapoel Beer Sheva should be very excited with the signing of Geno and the fans are definitely in for a treat next season getting to watch him play night in night out.
Aaron Falzon: Geno is a great player. He does some really spectacular things with the ball. He’s a super smart player, but most importantly he’s a top-level competitor.
