Amazing work ethic, high energy, great rim protector: Who are you Hapoel Haifa big man Jackson Stormo?

Dec 18, 2023 | Holyland Hoops

Jackson Stormo joined Hapoel Haifa a few weeks ago as the big man is making his second stop of the season as he turned professional after his senior year at Siena. The 24-year old Santa Barbara native will look to fill the void left by the injured Marcus Bingham on Guy Goodes’s squad and has already made an impact scoring 8.3 points and grabbing 8.7 rebounds over his first 3 games.

Stormo attended San Marcos Valley High School and then attended Pepperdine University for his freshman and sophomore years before transferring to Siena where he played three years and averaged 11.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. From the New York State school it was off to Portugal and Imortal Albufeira where the 6”9 forward/center put up solid numbers of 12.4 points and 8.7 rebounds in 9 games before moving to the Holy Land.

To learn more about Jackson Stormo, The Sports Rabbi was in touch with a number of the big man’s teammates:

Siena Teammate Zekeriya Yigit Tekin: Jackson is one of the best characters you can play with. He’s an amazing teammate on and off the court. He loves working hard and motivates everyone around him. Such a great person. I’m lucky that I had a chance to be on the same team with him.

Pepperdine Teammates:
Kameron Edwards: Jackson is a great teammate and overall great guy. He has an amazing work ethic. I saw him grinding incredibly hard since his freshman year to get playing time and improve. To now see him playing professionally and showing his potential is special to see. I’m happy for him and I know this is just the beginning for him.

Darryl Polk Junior: Jackson Stormo is one of the greatest teammates I’ve ever been around. He’s high energy, always communicating and cheering his guys on. He has a unique way about him that makes everyone on the team want to be around him. It helps that he also is a really good basketball player who plays to win. He will do whatever it takes to give his team the best opportunity to win the game. When I played on his team he was the most talented big man. Offensively he had impeccable footwork, patient, and passing ability in the post. Defensively he is a great rim protector and post defender while shown improvements on ball defending. Whoever gets the chance to work with Jackson will be impressed.

Keith Smith: Basketball aside, Stormo is an amazing person with a huge heart, one of the best teammates I’ve ever had. He’s very humble, very grounded and is always putting others first. He’s someone who I consider a real brother and feel lucky to have shared so much time with in college. As far as his game he’s got a very high basketball IQ and is very skilled. He sees the floor like a guard and is a threat from multiple levels. He can use his footwork in the post to create his own shot or find the open man, a great pick and roll player, and can step out to the perimeter and hit down open shots. And most importantly he’s a natural leader and is consistently speaking confidence into his teammates. I could go on and on but I think those are the biggest things that come to mind when I think about Jackson.
