Alex Chuberich was born in Russia and emigrated to Israel when he was 10-years old. The 6″11 foot center actually began his sports career as a volleyball player switching over to roundball when he was 19. The big man began his Israeli professional career Hapoel Gilboa/Galil and has also featured for Netanya, Maccabi Haifa and is currently with Hapoel Holon under the tutelage of Dan Shamir who is also one of the Blue & White’s assistant coaches.
Playing for Israel:
“It’s a big honor to be a part of the National Team especially having the Eurobasket in Israel. It will be very exciting and a lot of fun.”
EuroBasket in the Holy Land:
“It’s very important that the tournament in Israel will be in our country for its the first time. We want basketball to also get the credit it deserves and not just be second to soccer. It will be to be very important that the fans will come out and support us.”
His beginnings:
“My first sport was volleyball, but when I was 19 and I decided to give basketball a chance and as they say the rest is history.”
Proving himself over the next month:
“For me personally, the games are a good chance for the coaches to get a good look at me and that I deserve to be with the team until the very end of the campaign.”
