EuroLeague and EuroCup games planned to return to Israel starting December 1, 2025

Euroleague Commercial Assets (ECA) member clubs met on Tuesday to discuss the current situation in Israel and Gaza, following the recently announced ceasefire and peace initiatives. The meeting also addressed the possibility of bringing EuroLeague and BKT EuroCup games back to Israel, after matches were relocated to neutral venues since October 2023.

After thoughtful deliberation, ECA clubs agreed on the proposal to set December 1, 2025, as the date for games to resume in Israel. Until then, Euroleague Basketball will continue to carefully monitor developments, stay in close contact with local and foreign authorities, visiting teams, and all relevant organizations, including ELPA, EHCB and UEBO, and ensure that the safety and well-being of everyone involved remain the top priority.

Euroleague Basketball and its participating clubs welcome the recent peace plan with optimism and hope. The organization reaffirms its belief in the power of basketball to bring people and communities together, and its commitment to contributing to peace through the shared values of sport, respect, and unity.

Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv will be participating in the Euroleague while Hapoel Jerusalem will feature in the Eurocup. Since the October 7, 2023 attacks by Hamas on Israel, the trio of teams have been playing abroad with the yellow-and-blue having made their home away from home in Belgrade, Serbia which is the same city that Hapoel Jerusalem is currently playing in as well. Hapoel Tel Aviv have been based out of Sofia, Bulgaria for their Euroleague games.

Maccabi will have 11 home contests left when the Euroleague returns while Hapoel will have 12 remaining on their schedule. The two clubs may need to find an alternative home in Israel during the second half or December as the Yad Eliyahu facility is booked. The most probable alternative is the Jerusalem Arena which would be able to accommodate the season ticket holders. However, there is would be a conflict with Hapoel Jerusalem and Hapoel Tel Aviv on December 30th.
