אבל בכדורסל הישראלי. מייק קרטר, אחד משחקני העבר הבולטים ביותר בליגת העל בכלל ובהפועל חולון בפרט, הלך לעולמו בגיל 71.

קרטר, שנולד בשנת 1955 בלוס אנג'לס, שיחק כפורוורד (2.04 מטרים). הוא הגיע לישראל ולחולון בעונת 1982/83 ושיחק שם שנתיים, כשבעונתו הראשונה קלע 19.4 נקודות בממוצע למשחק. בישראל, קרטר המשיך להפועל קרית גת, מכבי נתניה, הפועל ירושלים ומכבי רמת גן, וחזר לחולון בעונת 1992/93, כשבקדנציה השנייה שיחק במדיה שלוש עונות. את הקריירה סיים קרטר עם 2434 נקודות בעונה הסדירה בליגת העל. הוא כונה "המשוגע".

בנו של קרטר, בן, הלך בדרכו ושיחק בליגת העל ואף בנבחרת ישראל.

מייק הגיע אלינו בעונת 82/83 כשחקן זר יחיד בקבוצה האגדית תחת הדרכתו של אריה מליניאק, ובהמשך לאחר נישואיו לישראלית הפך למתאזרח ולישראלי.

היכולת, האנרגיות הבלתי נגמרות והנשמה הענקית שלו הפכו אותו לסמל סגול ולחביב האוהדים שהדביקו לו את הכינוי "משוגע", כינוי אותו אימץ לעצמו גם לאחר פרישתו.

למרות ששיחק בעוד מספר קבוצות בארץ ראה מייק בחולוניה את הבית האמיתי שלו והיה גאה בכך.

לפני מספר ימים נכנס לניתוח פשוט יחסית אך סיבוך בהליך גרם לקריסת מערכות ולמותו.
