NBA Basketball Without Borders comes to Israel

The NBA’s “Basketball Without Bounds” camp is being held in Israel for the first time. With some NBA greats from players to coaches, the participants are getting the best possible education on the hardwood.

The opening press conference featured a number of speakers including NBA Commissioner Adam Silver who spoke about the camp values including peace, sportsmanship and fundamentals as the NBA continues to expand across the globe.

David Robinson, “The Admiral” was in attendance as the former San Antonio Spurs center, NBA champion, 2 time Olympic Gold Medalist and 10 time NBA All-Star took an active role in guiding the practices that were taking place at the Wingate Institute for 62 youngsters from Europe, all of who were born in 2000.

Anthony Parker, a former Euroleague champion with Maccabi Tel Aviv and former NBA player, made an appearance as well and received a special warm welcome from all those present. Turkey’s Daruşşafaka and former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt along with Israel National Team coach Erez Edelstein also tok part in the festivities.

A number of active NBA players also arrived for the camp including Jerryd Bayless (Philadelphia 76ers), Norman Powell (Toronto Raptors), Sam Dekker (Los Angeles Clippers), and Omri Casspi (Golden State Warriors).

Casspi spoke about having the opportunity to impact many youngsters in Israel: “I am thrilled to welcome you all to my country. The BWB program teaches values and practice applications both on and off the court including team work, leadership and respect. This is also about the ability of sport to unite people from different backgrounds towards a common goal. I remember being a camper back in 2005 and I urge you to use this opportunity to learn from some of the best in the business, and the best in the game, players and coaches the have put countless hours of work in the gym.”
