JP Tokoto Triple-Double leads Nes Ziona, Beer Sheva sinks Eilat, HTA eliminates Nahariya, Gilboa slips by Haifa, Maccabi & Rishon win! Highlights & Recaps Israel Basketball Gameday 28


Nes Ziona slipped by a game Maccabi Ashdod 99-97 as JP Tokoto notched a Triple-Double in the close victory. Tokoto scored 18 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and dished out 11 assists while Cameron Oliver and Lindell Wigginton added 20 points each in the victory. Paul Stoll led the way for the port city squad with his career high 32 points and 7 assists and Zac Cuthbertson scored 17 points as he missed the potential game winning 3-pointer as time ran out in the defeat. On Monday, Nes Ziona will need to win at Hapoel Gilboa Galil or Hapoel Beer Sheva will need to lose at home against Maccabi Haifa in order to advance to the playoffs.

Hapoel Tel Aviv willed their way past Nahariya 77-73 thanks to inspired play by their captain Toner Ginat with 27 points and 21 points from NBA Draft prospect Yam Madar. Nahariya controlled the tempo from the get go with Dominic Waters (16p) and Ivan Almeida (18p) leading the way but both fouled out in the latter stages of the game opening the door for the Reds to take the win.

Hapoel Gilboa Galil won a nail biter at Maccabi Haifa 81-80 to keep them in the running for 5th place in the standings while the Greens can finish anywhere from 5th to 8th place as the league closes in on the postseason. Michael Young scored from right underneath the basket as he received a perfect inbounds pass from Iftach Ziv to clinch the victory. Young ended the game with 20 points and 8 rebounds, Netanel Artzi added 21 points and 9 boards while Iftach Ziv scored 18 points in the win. Michael Brisker led Haifa with 15 points and Andrew Andrews scored 13 points in the loss.

Hapoel Beer Sheva needed a 4th quarter comeback to grab a 88-84 win that knocked Hapoel Eilat out of playoff contention. Rami Hadar’s southern squad will need to win and Gilboa Galil will need to beat Nes Ziona in order for his squad to sneak into the playoffs. Evan Bruinsma scored 23 points, Amir Bell added 19 points and Caleb Agada dropped 16 points in the win. Jordan Caroline scored 17 points, Milton Doyle added 16 points and Rafi Menco chipped in with 15 points in the loss.

Maccabi Tel Aviv defeated Hapoel Jerusalem 93-82 in a game that was never in doubt from the gate go. Deni Avdija helped the Yellow & Blue jump all over the Reds while Scottie Wilbekin, Angelo Caloiaro and Othello Hunter made sure that Ioannis Sfairopoulos’s squad maintained the lead in the 11-point victory. Wilbekin led the way with 23 points and 7 assists, Caloiaro added 16 points while Avdija scored 15 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, dished out 4 assists and made 4 steals in the win. Tamir Blatt scored 20 points to lead the Reds, James Feldeine chipped in with 18 points and John Holland had 15 points in the loss.

Maccabi Rishon Le’Zion downed Hapoel Holon 98-81 as Adam Ariel had a career night with 28 points to lead the way for Guy Goodes’s squad. Alex Hamilton added 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists while D’Angelo Harrison chipped in with 10 points win the win. Jimmy Hall with 20 points and 14 rebounds along with Jermaine Love’s 18 points led Holon in the defeat.
