Israel Premier League MD 35 Recaps & Highlights

Hapoel Beer Sheva needed an 88th minute goal to dispose of Hapoel Hadera 1-0 at Turner Stadium in Beer Sheva. Barak Bachar’s players struggled all night long to find the back of the Hadera goal, but once Tomer Yosefi did late in the game, a huge sigh of relief came over the fans and the head coach.

Maccabi Haifa needed a late goal to draw 1-1 with Maccabi Tel Aviv and split the points to keep their European dreams alive. Georges Mandjeck leaped into the air to head home a corner kick in the 86th minute to salvage a point for the hosts cancelling out a Yonatan Cohen first half marker. The yellow-and-blue dominated the first half but were only able to find the back if the goal when Itay Shechter stripped Haifa defender Eyad Habshi of the ball and send it to Cohen who did the rest in the 28th minute. The second half produced few chances but with the heat turned up late in the game, Mandjeck headed the ball with authority past a helpless Daniel Tenenbaum to take Haifa into the final game of the season against Maccabi Netanya with the opportunity to qualify for Europe.

Just days after winning the State Cup over Maccabi Netanya, Bnei Yehuda defeated the hosts 2-0 to put their European hopes into peril. Yossi Abuksis’s side scored early on in the 3rd minute when Dor Jan repeated his Cup goal scoring feat and found the back of the Netanya goal once again, this time beating keeper Dani Amos from 18 meters. Ten minutes later the visitor’s scored again when Shay Mozer who was in the box, put the ball past Amos as Bnei Yehuda held on to take the points and jeopardize Netanya’s continental hopes.
