Hapoel Holon dominated a shorthanded Hapoel Jerusalem 101-82 as they completed a full round of 11 games undefeated to move their record to 18-4 and into first place. Dan Shamir’s squad used high energy and a huge 27-11 second quarter to cruise to the 19-point victory. Darion Atkins led the hosts with a 25 points 12 rebound double-double performance off of the bench while Corey Walden scored 16 points and dished out 7 assists as Scottie Reynolds had arguably his best game of the season with 13 points. Jerusalem who were playing without Josh Owens who flew to the United States and Amare Stoudemire who was nursing a knee injury relied on Tashawn Thomas who topped the Jerusalem scorers with 24 points and 11 boards while Tamir Blatt added 14 points but only had 2 assists in the loss.
Maccabi Tel Aviv defeated Nahariya 78-61 to lockdown first place at the end of two rounds of league play with a 18-4 record. Nahariya battled Maccabi for the first thirty minutes of the contest, but the Yellow & Blue pulled away in the 4th quarter thanks to an outstanding performance by Alex Tyus with 17 points and 9 rebounds. DeAndre Kane added 13 points while Jake cohen chipped in with 10 points and 8 boards in the victory. Eric Griffin was the leading scorer for visiting Nahariya with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks.
Hapoel Beer Sheva defeated Hapoel Eilat 88-83 in the southern capital. Jordan Swing scored 22 points, Taylor Braun dropped 18 points and Kerron Johnson added 17 points in the win while JP Takoto led Eilat with 19 points. Johnson sparked Rami Hadar’s Beer Sheva squad to a 47-34 lead after twenty minutes of action but Tokoto led the Red Sea side back into the game midway through the second half. However, Swing and Braun came to rescue to help the host’s to the win.
Maccabi Ashdod slipped by Hapoel Tel Aviv 95-89 at the Drive In Arena. Mark Tollefsen with 29 points and Josh Carter with 26 points dominated the scoresheet for Ashdod while Jamal Shuler dropped 17 points for Hapoel Tel Aviv. Brad Greenberg’s team got off to a dream start in the first half as Tollefsen drained 7 triples, Josh Carter went 5/5 from beyond the arc and Paul Stoll dished out ten assists after only twenty minutes of action to help visiting Ashdod to a 58-45 lead. Ashdod continued their fine play from the first half over the last two frames as Spencer Weisz and Nimrod Levi helped wrap up the victory.
Nes Ziona got back on the winning track on the road with a 81-62 win at cellar dwellers Bnei Herzliya. Five players featured in double digits for Nadav Zilberstein’s squad as Talib Zanna led the way with 13 points while Gary Browne Ramirez and Tal Dunne each dropped 12 points in the win cancelling out Karam Mashur’s 23 points for the host’s.
Hapoel Gilboa/Galil recorded an important 92-77 win over Rishon Lezion. Durand Scott was Ariel Beit Halachmi’s high scorer with 18 points, Netanel Artzi added 17 points and Greg Whittington clocked in with a double-double of 16 points and 18 rebounds. Egor Koulechov and Deshawn Stephens led Rishon with 16 points a piece in the loss.
