Hapoel Jerusalem advanced to the Champions League quarterfinals after disposing of Peristeri 79-73 to take their best of 3 series, two games to none. The Reds came out of the gate strong and built up an 18 point lead by halftime on the strength of James Feldeine’s hot hand. But a 19-7 this quarter by the hosts cut the Jerusalem advantage heading into the final frame where J’Covan Brown starred down the stretch.
Brown led Jerusalem with 25 points, Feldeine notched 24 points while Tashawn Thomas added 13 points in the win for Oded Katash’s squad. Yanick Moreira scored 14 points and Panagiotis Vasilopoulos scored 12 points in the loss.
Hapoel Jerusalem jumped out to an early 17-11 lead over Peristeri as James Feldeine paced the Reds with 10 points while DeAndre Kane answered for the hosts with 6 points and 3 offensive rebounds after ten minutes of action.
Suleiman Braimoh who picked up a pair of early fouls came back in for Oded Katash’s squad and scored points as did Tashawn Thomas. But Yanick Moreira and Zois Karampelas answered for Nikos Papanikolopoulos’s team as Jerusalem maintained a 26-19 lead midway through the second quarter. J’Covan Brown got hot and Feldeine hit a trio of corner triples while Thomas slammed home the ball to head into halftime with a dominating 46-28 advantage.
Ioannis Agravanis put in a layup and Panagiotis Vasilopoulos scored a 3-pointer but Feldeine answered with a three of his own at the other end of the court to begin the third quarter. Agravanis scored another layup for Peristeri, Steven Gray hit his first free throw, Moreira put back his back end and followed that up with a jumper to cut the Jerusalem lead to 50-43 with 3:39 left in the frame. Gray and Moreira each scored again but Brown scored free throws to stay ahead 53-47 after thirty minutes.
Thomas hit a hook shot while Brown drilled home a 3-pointer to get the fourth quarter off and running but Gray and Kingsley Moses quickly scored for Peristeri. Brown hit another triple, this time coming from the corner, Bar Timor scored a driving layup from the right side and Thomas nailed a 3-pointer to bump up the Jerusalem lead to 66-57 midway through the frame. Feldeine scored a floater and Brown added free throws, but Vasilopoulos scored for the hosts as did Moreira but Brown continued to score as the Reds advanced to the Champions League quarterfinals.
