Maccabi Bnot Ashdod, last season\u2019s State Cup Champions and Athena Winner League Runners Up, announced the signing of Amanda Zahui on Thursday. Zahui, a 6-4 Swedish native who played her college basketball at the University of Minnesota, was the second overall pick in the 2015 WNBA draft. She currently plays for the Indiana Fever alongside Maya Caldwell, who recently signed with AS Ramat Hasharon for the upcoming season.<\/p>\n

Ashdod\u2019s CEO Uri Ben Simon (CEO) and Head Coach Shira Haelion said of the signing: \u201cWe insistent on bringing a player of a very high level. Amanda answers all our requirements, she\u2019s a player from top of Europe and the WNBA with a lot of experience and her willingness to join Ashdod says a lot about the club and the processes taking place here over the last few years with the goal of always setting the highest bar.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zahui joins Dallas Wings center Kalani Brown, Daniel Karsh, May Dayan, Joy Osigwe and Tal Lev on Ashdod\u2019s roster, which looks a lot different to last season\u2019s team, with head coach Haelion replacing Le\u2019Coe Willingham and the departures of Yaara Yizchaki (AS Ramat Hasharon), Alex Cohen (Hapoel Lev Jerusalem) and Tal Sahar (retired to study dentistry at NYU).

\nAthena Winner League Schedule Set for 2023-24<\/strong>
\nOn Wednesday, the games for the upcoming Athena Winner League (Israel\u2019s Premier Women\u2019s Basketball League) season were drawn at the Israel Basketball Association\u2019s offices. The draw was conducted by League Chairperson Hila Knister Bar David and League Coordinator Snir Shoham.<\/p>\n

The 2023-24 season will kick off on Monday October 16, with Hapoel Bnei Petah Tikvah hosting the reigning champions Elitzur Ramla, Elitzur Holon hosting Maccabi Ironi Ramat Gan, ASA \u2018Bank Yahav\u2019 Jerusalem hosting Maccabi Bnot Ashdod, Hapoel Lev Jerusalem hosting Hapoel Rishon Lezion and AS Ramat Hasharon hosting Maccabi Haifa.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
