The Israel baseball team advanced to the next round with a huge 12-5 victory over Mexico. The win not only set up a minimum of two more games and a chance to medal but they also staved off elimination by downing the Mexicans who were sent home after the defeat. <\/p>\n

\u201cToday\u2019s win was larger than just a win to keep us alive,” Blake Gailen told The Sports Rabbi following the win. “It was the first time in over 40 years a team-ball-sport earned an Olympic W for Israel. We have put ourselves in a great position moving forward in this tournament and we are going to try to ride this momentum into tomorrow\u2019s game.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Blue & White will next play the winner of the South Korea and Dominican Republic game and should they be victorious in that matchup they will advance to the semifinals. If Israel loses they will move down to the repechage where they will play the loser of the South Korea and Dominican Republic game and the road to a medal will be that much harder with a date against Japan and the United States up next.

\nThe Blue & White got off to a terrific start and raced out to a 6-0 lead by the third inning thanks to a Danny Valencia homerun and timely hitting from Nick Rickles who each drove in 3 runs on the day. However, Mexico came right back in the bottom half of the third to put up a 4-spot and cut the lead to 6-4.

\nAfter Mexico put up another run in the bottom of the 6th inning, Israel broke the game open against former Major League pitcher Oliver Perez in the top of the 7th as they batted around with Ty Kelly and Mitch Glasser getting the timely hits to wrap up the win.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
