“Thank you to the club’s supporters, those who are still with us and, of course, those who gave their lives defending our country. On behalf of the entire city of Jerusalem, I want to embrace you, dear families, and assure you that the city will stand by your side for the rest of your lives.”

Club owner Barak Abramov reflected on the promise to honor the fallen supporters.

“We said we would create a memorial and a monument in their honor. Unfortunately, more people have fallen since then, and the memorial has grown to include 122 people who were killed or murdered. I live with this sadness. I can’t compare my experience to yours, but I see you and feel for you. As the head of the organization, it was personally important to me to fulfill our promise.

“It was important to make it possible to learn about every person through the QR codes, so that we can get to know and remember each and every supporter. That way, every child who grows up with Beitar Jerusalem will know the supporters who sacrificed their lives and understand that, above all, Beitar Jerusalem is a community and a family.

“Our club lost more people than any other club. Not that it makes a difference, but despite all the immense sadness, I hope we can bring you some joy through positive results on the pitch. Beitar Jerusalem will always continue to commemorate those we have lost, regardless of who runs the club. This will always come before everything else, because it is the most important thing. As long as I’m here, you will continue to attend our matches free of charge, and I pray that better days are ahead.”

Beitar goalkeeper Miguel Silva also spoke at the ceremony, reflecting on how October 7 changed his perspective after experiencing the events firsthand in Israel.

“First of all, it’s an honor for me to stand here. October 7 changed my life. I was in Israel and experienced something I had never experienced before. When I came to Israel, I never imagined something like this would happen to me. I had the opportunity to hear and see the truth and understand what is happening here.

“So many people sacrificed their lives for us, and I thank them for everything they did. I want to tell the families that I love you and that I’ll be here for you, whatever you need.”

Meitav Zorno, the sister of the late Karin, spoke movingly about the changing nature of grief three years after losing a loved one.

“I tried to write a few words that would describe what you and I are feeling. It wasn’t easy, but I tried. Three years is a complicated amount of time. At first, everyone knows we’re broken and expects nothing from us. In the second year, the loss is still fresh. But by the third year, people expect us to get back to ourselves and return to the lives we had before.

“I feel it most in the little things. I go to send Karin a message or call her, and then I remember what happened. But that’s the scariest part, not that we’re forgetting, but that we’re getting used to life without her.

“She’s still 23. I think about what might have been if she were still here, how many people she would have met and how many experiences she would have had. I think everyone here would agree that we want people to remember both the girl she was growing up and the person she became. I would give anything to have her back.

“The club continues to remind us of who these people were when they were alive. You keep their memories alive, tell their stories and do things in their honor. Thank you to Beitar Jerusalem for commemorating not only what they looked like, but also who they were.”

Yitzhak Mizrahi, father of the late Eliran Mizrahi, spoke about his efforts to help soldiers coping with the psychological toll of the war.

“I’m Eliran’s father. He went out to fight on October 7. I’m here to save the soldiers who have been left to deal with the aftermath of this war. Unfortunately, there are many suicides, and I’m here to help save them.

“We established a center in Beit Shemesh to treat 250 soldiers, because what we have left is the chance to save the soldiers who are still alive. We couldn’t save our son, but we want to save those we still can.”

Beitar Jerusalem held an emotional ceremony Thursday evening to inaugurate a memorial wall at the club’s Bayit Vegan training complex, honoring 122 supporters who were murdered or fell in action since October 7, 2023, and during the ensuing war.
