Football is a wonderful sport. Maccabi Tel Aviv was at their lowest point in quite some time after their 1-1 draw with Lugano on Thursday night that saw their European campaign come to a brutally premature end for the 2026-27 season. <\/p>\n

The management, players and staff were certainly devastated with the result as the yellow-and-blue are regulars in one of UEFA\u2019s competitions. But this will now be a year without the Conference League or Europa League and eight extra games that not only bring in a significant amount of cash, but also a chance to go toe-to-toe with some of the best clubs in the continent.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe talked before the game,\u201d Maccabi winger Osher Davida commented. \u201cAli (Camara) told us, \u2018Remember how we felt after Thursday\u2019s game, so let\u2019s enjoy ourselves today and help ourselves get back on track.\u2019 Personally, Thursday was probably the lowest point of my career. So it was very, very important to win here today. I\u2019m happy, very happy that we did it.\u201d

\nAnd enjoy Maccabi did as they took the Israeli Classico with a 3-1 win over Maccabi Haifa. <\/p>\n

Dor Peretz put home a brace for his 4th and 5th goals of the season in what was a fairly convincingly victory. Although Haifa did show some life in the second half it wasn\u2019t nearly enough to somehow come away with the 3-points or even a point for their efforts. Maccabi without Europe means a lot more effort and time can be put into the domestic league and that began on Monday night at a jam packed Bloomfield Stadium. <\/p>\n

While it was Maccabi Haifa by name and players parading around the pitch in green and white, this was not the team that the more than 3,000 supporters who came to cheer their heroes on wanted to see. What they did see was a Maccabi Tel Aviv team that came out with one goal in mind; to win.

\nThis was Maccabi Tel Aviv and Kenny Miller\u2019s night to celebrate and to announce, to make a statement loud and clear to the Israeli footy world that the yellow-and-blue is ready to battle for the league title and all of the available trophies. Those who had already written off the season due to the European failure and that\u2019s what it was, a failure by all involved with the club, have been sorely mistaken. <\/p>\n

There had been plenty of talk that the owner Mitch Goldhar had decided to abandon ship, that there was going to be no more big signings, no more investing in the club, that the team was going to be ripe for the taking. Well that has been put by the wayside in more ways than one. <\/p>\n
