This past season saw Avdija\u2019s scoring prowess improve drastically as he dropped 9.2 points per game and shot under 30% from downtown in the 2022\/23 season. Due to his scoring jump, Avdija finished 6th in the final voting results for the NBA\u2019s Most Improved Player Award.<\/p>\n<p>This past February, Avdija scored 43 points in a contest against the New Orleans Pelicans making him the highest scoring Israeli player, smashing the previous high of 36 by Omri Casspi.<br \/>\n<div id=\"attachment_97846\" style=\"width: 911px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-97846\" src=\"https:\/\/sportsrabbi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/IMG_0507.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"901\" height=\"746\" class=\"size-full wp-image-97846\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sportsrabbi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/IMG_0507.jpeg 901w, https:\/\/sportsrabbi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/IMG_0507-610x505.jpeg 610w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 901px) 100vw, 901px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-97846\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Deni Avdija &#8211; Photo Credit: Neil Dalal<\/p><\/div><br \/>\nThe Trail Blazers, who are in the midst of a rapid rebuild after the Damian Lillard era ended this past year with a 21-61 record but the Sabra wing will join a very young up-and-coming core in Portland. 20-year old Scoot Henderson leads the way after being selected 3rd overall in last year\u2019s draft, 21-year-old guard Shaedon Sharpe who was selected 7th in the 2022 Draft, 25-year-old guard Anfernee Simons and the 2018 1st overall draft pick 25-year-old center Deandre Ayton. The Trail Blazers also selected UCONN center Donovan Clingan with the 7th pick in this year\u2019s entry draft. <\/p>\n<p>Avdija, who played for Maccabi Tel Aviv between 2017-2000 was a 3-time Israeli League champion while also earning the 2020 MVP award.
