Maccabi Tel Aviv signed guard Joe Thomasson until the end of the 2023\/24 season. The 1.93 M (6’4”) playmaker will join the team from Granada after Maccabi activated his buy-out clause. Thomasson is familiar with Israeli basketball after spending two seasons at Gilboa\/Galil, helping the team reach the finals in 2021.<\/p>\n

30-year-old Thomasson is an experienced combo-guard, who can do a little bit of everything is comfortable playing out of the pick-and-roll and knows how to get to his spots for mid-range jump shots. He has hit his shots well from the 3-point line throughout his career and plays with passion and energy.<\/p>\n

\u201cJoe Thomason is a tough and competitive player who knows the league very well. He has experience and will help us with the many games that we are dealing with,\u201d Head Coach Oded Katash said.<\/p>\n

In 20 ACB League games with Granada this season, Thomasson delivered 14.1 points per game along with 3.4 assists and 1.1 steals. The native of Dayton, Ohio, scored 17 points per game in his first season in Israel, and 14.2 in his second while leading Gilboa to a shot at the championship. Thomasson<\/p>\n

Thomasson attended State Fair Community College and then moved to Wright State for his final two years of eligibility. In 2016 he headed to Dinamo Bucharest which was followed by stops in Poland before arriving in Israel in the 2019\/20 season when he joined Hapoel Gilboa\/Galil.<\/p>\n

Following his second campaign in Israel it was off to Manresa in Spain where he featured in both the ACB and Basketball Champions League and from there it was on to Zenit St.. Petersburg and Promethias Patras in Greece.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
