“We are proud to represent Israel at a high level” Holon drops Tofas Bursa 93-81

Hapoel Holon are a perfect two for two in Champions League Round of 16 Playoff action as the Israeli team downed Tofas Bursa in Turkey 93-81. Stefanos Dedas’s crew were clicking on all cylinders as Tyrus McGee (25p), Chris Johnson (22p), CJ Harris (21p) and Isaiah Miles (16p) plays their high octane style of basketball to take the win.


Tofas Bursa jumped out to a 25-17 lead as former Jerusalem guard Tarik Phillip led the way with 7 points and 3 assists while Berman Durmaz added 7 points as well, but Chris Johnson with 9 points and CJ Harris with 6 points kept Stefanos Dedas’s squad in the game after ten minutes.

Tyrus McGee turned up the heat in the second quarter while Isaiah Miles began to score as well to give Holon a lead but Tomislav Zubcic and Berk Ugurlu helped Tofas even up the score at 45-45 by halftime.

Johnson and Harris got Holon rolling in the second half while McGee scored at will as well to give the visitors the 72-68 lead as Ugurlu and Durmaz tried to keep Tofas close as the game moved into the final frame.

The fourth quarter saw Holon pull away early with points by Miles and McGee as the Israeli squad cruised to the victory.

Chris Johnson spoke about the victory following the game, “I’m happy we did a good job especially in the 2nd half with rebounding and taking away the 3’s. Isaiah’s first game back with 8 defensive rebounds showed that everyone battled.”

Coach Dedas also reflected on the win, “I’m happy to be back in Turkey and we are very proud as a club representing Israel at a high level. Today’s win shows that we are serious, we have strategy and are competitive. This is our 5th win in a row and we are tired with 6 games in a row on the road but injuries and fatigue are part of the game.”
