Maccabi Haifa held their press conference ahead of the resumption of the 2019/20 season as Head Coach Daniel Seoane, Captain Willy Workman and CEO Assaf Rosenblatt.

Coach Daniel Seoane opened the proceedings, “We know all of the guys really well and it will be tough to build something new in 20 days, but I trust my team. I also trust my Israeli players who performed well both this yea and last year and our system can work with different actors. I can’t promise that we will be in the Final Four but we have small goals and our first is to play well against Hapoel Tel Aviv on June 21st.”

The coach also spoke about his journey from Venezuela, “There were only a few flights that I saw at the airport, one to Houston and the other to Addis Ababa. But I love Israel, this city and my job but we did it. I believe it’s worth it and it makes everything easy.”

Andrew Andrews who played for Afula a couple of seasons ago will be a key addition to the club, “We know him from our time in the second division, I know the type of person he is and we tried to bring him this season and we had the opportunity now and we didn’t hesitate. He’s still young only 27 years old, with a great future. He can score and is a go to guy. I like what I have seen so far.”

The players made sure to keep in shape over the break, “I like the way they want to improve and they’ve kept working. They have worked hard during the coronavirus and that made me very proud, they understand what needs to be done. The Israeli players are the most important guys here. The players keep learning things and even Willy has become a totally different player. I’m looking forward to see the whole team play and I’ll demand more with more responsibilities.”

Captain Willy Workman talked about getting back to work, “I’m very excited that basketball has returned and it was very tough the last couple of months. Thankfully there was the Michael Jordan Documentary to watch. I stayed at my home and watched a lot of basketball but now I’m ready to work hard to finish the season strong.

Assaf Rosenblatt discussed the challenges with preparing for next season, “No one at this point can say anything about next season. We don’t know much about what will be due to the coronavirus and it’s very difficult to look ahead that way but it doesn’t have any factor with the return of this season. Even if the season didn’t come back it would have no effect on the next.”
