The Boss. Big George passed away yesterday at the age of 80.
I will always remember him as a flamboyant owner, one who looked to build the Yankees back into what they had once been in the 1940’s & 50’s, the power, the empire, the best team in baseball over the past decade and a half.
George will forever remain controversial from hring managers to firing managers to the Howard Spira affair to illegal campaign contributions. George built up the last 70’s Yankees obtaining Reggie Jackson thorugh free agency and using that route to build around, sometimes successful and sometimes not.
But mostly he has used that route to the team’s advantage and was able to do that late into his life.
He built a TV empire, the YES network and changed the dynamics of the sports world in many many ways.
Here are 2 articles from the New York Times about The Boss.
