Geoff Gray’s Holy Land Hoopster Diary – Lockdown Week #2

Oct 5, 2020 | Holyland Hoops

I wish I had more to offer so far, but when your job already omits a lot of free time, and you can’t go to work due to a country-wide quarantine, there isn’t much to provide. The last week and a half has basically consisted of home workouts, cooking, video games, television, and a lot of trips to the grocery store.

Luckily there are a couple outdoor courts near my apartment, making skills work somewhat accessible. Every shooter knows that while shooting outside isn’t ideal, it’s certainly better than nothing. As for strength and conditioning, lack of a weight room is sometimes frustrating, but when you have all day there’s no excuse not to get your work in at home. Hopefully this is just temporary, and we will all be back in the gym soon enough.

Now onto the rest of my day. Because staying in shape only takes up to a few hours each day, there’s a lot of room for other hobbies, sometimes too much. One thing I’ve taken advantage of during the last seven months is actually learning how to cook, which is essential at some point. After being spoiled by access to the dining hall in college, and the free meals in Eilat last year, I knew it was time to get good at it myself. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in the last few weeks, the fruits and vegetables in Kiryat Ata are delicious.

As for non-essentials, I’ve been using the myCareer on NBA 2K21 for Xbox One as a substitute for not being able to actually play basketball, as I’m sure a lot of other players in my position are doing. Compliment that with catching up on my TV Shows, mainly Peaky Blinders and Sons of Anarchy as of late, and the lockdown hasn’t been all that bad. Of course I can’t forget NFL RedZone on Sunday nights, and occasionally waking up in the middle of the night to catch the last quarter of an NBA playoff game – unfortunate ending for my Celtics but wow Jimmy Butler was spectacular in game 3…

That’s all for now. I’m looking forward to providing my experiences throughout the rest of this journey whenever we return to relatively normal lifestyles, whenever that is. I’m wishing health and safety upon everyone during these trying times!
